Latterly topics have been of a political nature. in my world politics and religion should be avoided. I’ll disappear quietly for a while until normal conversation returns.

Lewis' definition of perfection : Change Go with the flow. Better than a dead forum. People need to speak. Besides, books inspire thought and conversation. They make people question. Smart people discuss.

I'm not sure why you would take this decision
All you have to do is not click on the thread.
Surely, you're not offended by the thread title and are thus reluctant to even look at the forum?
The other point is that writers and artists of any calibre have always had political leanings. It goes with the territory.
So long as the forum is mainly about books, it's surely not a big issue.

I agree with you, Ken. Hijacking this forum to propagate political or religious ideas is not acceptable.

I agree with you, Ken. Hijacking this forum to propagate political or religious ideas is not acceptable. Well if that is the case, perhaps whoever runs this forum should make up the rules Either the forum is completely about books, or other debate is allowed Since there appear to be no guidelines, which suggests an element of freedom, you can't say that any rules have been broken. And as I said in a previous post, writers are by nature, thinking people, so it's hardly surprising that the odd political post crops up if this freedom is allowed.

In the previous Fora the Rules were quite simple and straightforward and adhered to without comment or complaint.
I’m sure that the majority who came over to this one would have expected the same.

The informal rule has been to avoid debate / arguments on politics, religion, and sex. The reason being some members have gotten upset enough to delete their accounts.
There are other boards that deal with discussion / debate / arguments on politics, religion, and sex.

I don't think there's been a sex discusson yet?
I these are the "informal" rules I still think they should be more clear cut. For example, can politics be mentioned in passing? Or is politics banned completely?

I suspect Benziger [who set up this iteration of the fora] expects adults to act like adults so he hasn't written out an exhaustive list.
As a moderator, I can say I do expect adults to act like adults.
Members on the fora are from a variety of educational / cultural / political / religious [or not] backgrounds. As a result there are a lot of different opinions, so it might be best to avoid getting into politics, religion, and sex.
