Yesterday I got an e-mail from Lulu: Starting March 31, 2020 - landscape format 22.86 x 17.78 cm in with booklet stitch binding
- comic book 16,82 x 26 cm with uncoated paper
will no longer be available, "but many new options". Lulu strongly recommends that I download these files before March 31, 2020 to rebuild a project with one of the new or similar products. I'll have to look for which of my books is affected. Probably a book I just created one or two month ago :-(

One will also need a new ISBN. I understand survival is key and a business has to do what they have to do. But, it's exhausting for the user.

Thank you for the wording, Maggie, I reused some of it while writing to the customer support:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I understand that with the new software you no longer want to offer one format or another for new projects. But it is very difficult for me to understand that the previous books in these formats are no longer available.

In my opinion, diversity makes the difference to the competitors. And for me as a publisher, Lulu is the more interesting as a partner the more formats are offered. Especially landscape formats (because there are so few of them). That's why your decision is difficult for me to understand, even if I'm only concerned with only one book.
Best regards

PS In addition to various landscape formats, small formats are also important for the children's book market, such as the world-famous Pixi format (4x4 in or 10x10 cm stapled).

It seems Lulu have lost my email address … Hello Kevin, I got the mail twice: on 27th and 29th. But it is formulated that it apparently only went to those who had books in one of the two formats concerned.

[br It makes one hesitant to be prolific in any one size for fear it may be discontinued in the future. Benziger, IS probably offers your book size. You'll need a new ISBN for it. Just change the cover, eg, matte instead of glossy.

If the new format differs only slightly from the old one, I take that as a tolerance of the printer and not as a new book with a new ISBN, especially if it is the book I suspect (project created in January, at the moment only on Lulu and not yet advertised and sold).

It makes one hesitant to be prolific in any one size for fear it may be discontinued in the future. This is a very important point. I think everyone of us ( Mag2024, Retread-Retired-Cameron, larika, ronmiller, BlueAndGold, hulsey, mockingbird, tasmanianartist, And Kevin 2024, aacain, oncewas, potet, and all others with one post or less) should write to customer service about it. Because any one of us could be affected in the future. Preferably write just today or tomorrow or one of the next days. www.lulu.com/support?L1=1se&L2=1se2gi (click on "I Still Need Help" on the bottom)

Not to copy paste, but just as an idea -------------------------------------- Dear Sir or Madam
Thank you for your announcement for the new options. Including the abandonment of two previous formats. It is understandable that you no longer want to offer certain formats for new projects. But: It makes one hesitant to be prolific in any one size for fear it may be discontinued in the future.
And that's dangerous for Lulu. Not only can previous projects no longer be renewed, but customers can drop out. There are other providers...
With concerned greetings

Lulu have always had the habit of dropping things they decide are not popular enough to bother with. Don't forget that the Wizard software has to be able to cope with the sizes also, and have they not promised new Wizards? Do you recall when it was possible to publish downloadable software here? And CD, case and inserts creation? Downloadable Art? (Which I first started to use Lulu for.) All long discontinued. And indeed, there are other places to turn to. Amazon for example, who have improved CreateSpace, or whatever it is called now, immensely. To be honest, I think this forum should be renamed Self-Publishing. BTW. Lulu also seem to have lost my email address to offer me to beta test for them. Who would have thought that over ten years of 'service' using Lulu and giving advice in the forum and suggesting what was wrong with some aspects of creating on it, would not be ideal as a beta tester? Beta tests also need to be done by so many people with so many types of devices that it catches every type of problem.

Write to Lulu and ask if they can release your ISBN, then write to Ingram Spark and ask how to go about using the same ISBN.
