A friend of mine is reprinting a series of lurid 50s paperbacks. I've already posted the cover for the first in the series. Here is the second one... The cover consists of photos from my own files (the two figures and the trees in the background) and a photo of a shack from the Library of Congress. The foreground figure was composed from two different photos, both originally B&W. Some of details were painted by hand, such as the grass and the open neck of the dress.

Brilliant as the cover is, I won't be buying the book. Not really to my taste.

They are all innuendo, of course, and sometimes the author's attempts to sound sexy while staying within the legal restraints of the 1950s is hilarious. They are mostly just wannbe Erksine Caldwells.

I enjoy that too, Ron. The stunted, daring risqueness of seduction in old books.
It isn't that old but Birdsong was so very erotic and no restraint at all. If you haven't already read it, I think you would really like it.

I try to make sure that I explain the processes behind each cover.
To that end, I also try to avoid posting covers that required a lot of work by hand---or were done entirely by hand---since that doesn't seem too fair or useful.
And, of course, I try to emphasize avoiding the use of stock imagery when at all possible.

Ron, where did you find the male character? His stance exudes virility and 50s everything.

I think your friend should distribute it if s/he's not doing that already. Ingram Spark has a promo NANO2020, and lulu is always free..

I think she has a brand-new website but I don't have the address for it. I will have to find that for you. I haven't heard from her yet, but here is the FB page: www.facebook.com/RenaissanceEBooks/By the way, the next titles in this series of reprints will be Desire in the Ozarks and Backwoods Girl. Can't beat those titles!

And the third... The main figure was based on a photo of a migrant farmer I found on the Library of Congress site. It was combined with parts of a couple of photos of a friend (one is included above---actually, I don't think it's exactly the same photo, but close enough). The background and background figure also came from the LoC. There was some fair amount of work by hand, obviously, including the background figure from the knees down. Everything started with B&W.
