Just noticed the following on my Projects Overview page:
Pricing Update Alert On November 9, 2022, we’ll update the print cost for some of our products. As a result, the revenue you earn from sales may be impacted. Please run our pricing review to check if your projects are affected.
Looks like we're having another cost increase.

We just went through this last February. (Again? Already?) I ran their "pricing review" to find that all my books once again need to be increased. Interestingly, a large hardcover is going negative. In CANADA at $74.50 it takes a loss. Why is Canada pricing always so different than Euros, Pounds, and USD? Why don't they like Canada?
So... Last time this didn't go well. Who is going to be the first guinea pig this time?

Good grief. Only to be expected I suppose. Everything else has gone up. But I have not adjusted my prices since last time yet!

Lulu's last price-rise was huge, so it's quite a surprise they are doing it again. I've just run Lulu's price checker and four out of eighteen titles will go negative. All the others will remain positive but with obviously lower margins.
We are a not-for-profit organisation, so I have to run this past the committee to approve any price rises. Also, apart from the hassle of changing the prices on Lulu, There are also eighteen web pages to change on our own website. And I will have to change all the prices on the website's book order form. Also, our Publications Officer, who fulfils all book orders that come via our website, will have eighteen pro-forma emails to change.
Our books were already looking uncompetitive after last time.
Not good!

I volunteered to be the Guinea Pig. At this point, it seems to have gone well this time.
If you look at your projects, each item that will be affected by the price changes will have a purple banner spread across the top that tells you there is an Unpublished Draft awaiting approval. Don't freak out - just below it is the normal green banner informing you that the project remains in Distribution.
When you run their Pricing Review, it will list each project you may want to alter, along with the prices and calculator columns you are used to seeing when you publish/revise. Make your changes the click the blue Update Price button at bottom right.
A subsequent look at your Projects will show that that particular purple banner is now gone.
Very easy. Went smoothly.

I wonder how the prices at other self-publishing places have changed. I also use KDP, but only for Ebooks, so there's no costs involved to create one or buy a Proof. But I now wonder if they have increased their 'cut'? Usually with any changes KDP send me an email about it, but not so far. And Lulu also supposedly sends me emails to do with changes, but they never do.

No, I've not been getting any Lulu email updates for a while now either, so imagine my surprise when I logged in to my account to find out their increasing their prices. I understand that everything seems to be getting more expensive, but at the same time, there's only so much the marketplace will allow and where many of us will be I imagine re-evaluating our pricing and/or whether to reconsider whether all of this is worth it.

One does wonder whether it's worth it. It's pretty hard to Justify $23+ for a novel.

It really is! I have tried to keep mine no more than 300 pages long due to the cost of POD. I have just recently bought three books by the major publisher, Orbit. 850 pages each. £10.99 each. I have not as yet adjusted the price of mine, but, an example of one of mine on Amazon. 269 pages. £9.99. if I equalled the page count of 850 that would amount to £31.57. Granted the full colour cover costs a lot more than an individual page, so it may not come to exactly that, but all the same ...

For now all of PTPs published books will keep the same prices but I am considering any future publications will likely see a price increase. Nothing definite yet.

For now all of PTPs published books will keep the same prices but I am considering any future publications will likely see a price increase. Nothing definite yet. I would suspect all of your customers, existing or potential, will expect it. Everything is going up. Hence the overall rise in the cost of living. Shortages often have that effect. And of course, everyone in the chain increases prices because the chain they deal with have increased prices also But the main cause of the increase in the price of everything in at least the UK is that the price of gas, electricity, fuel for delivery etc., vehicles, etc etc etc, has rocketed.
Quite a lot of people in the UK are in the situation that it's a toss-up between buying food, or heating the house. Something has to be sacrificed to pay for essentials, and I would expect that books are low on the list.
