What a lot of people don't realise, or take in to account when they do, Lulu do not print the books, so they are paying the printing costs, plus taxes, plus profit, of third party printers, and that is passed on, plus Lulu's cut. It's no wonder Lulu often costs more. Many other options do print their own books. KDP do for example. No middleman's mark-ups. But what also has to be considered is via a 'traditional' publisher Royalties will be far less, but they do have all the expense. Although they also mass print books, so can sell them for less. POD is expensive.
