First Book! I am doing the final editing on a Family History Book. Hope for some very basic advice. I have spent some time reading and watching several of LULU's tutorials. I am fairly proficient in MS Word.
So I downloaded the 8.5 x 11 Word Template.
I ended up with a blank page with all borders set at .5 inch and a .3 inch gutter. No other formatting that I can tell.
Is that all there is to it??
There are no instructions for importing the template into Word (2019). I spent 3 hours researching how to set up the location for personal templates and eventually pasting into the correct folder.
I could have set up the document borders in 5 minutes by myself.
Am I missing something?

I made my own, a long time ago, by trial and error and MS's Word help site pages. And a few Lulu Proofs! But if it's a Word template then Word should open it when you click on the file, or search for it from within Word. Word templates are just a word file. And yes, it's a template, so it will be a blank page. The basic formatting is just the margin and a gutter. It normally does not format the text because there is none. That's up to you. I doubt there will be page breaks and sections in it also. No page numbering etc. No headers or footers. No left and right page. Up to you to set those also. So yes, you may as well set up your own! .5 all round is inadequate really. I would allow more, not least because when the pages are trimmed a bit can be lost. But also top and bottom may have to be adjusted to allow for headers and footers. Spine side margin often depends on how many pages there are. The more there are the more gap should be allowed, plus the gutter. POD is greedy when binding the pages. It's not easy, really This may help, but it's a bit basic. digital.imprint.co.uk/formatting-book-microsoft-word/
