I was watching a documentary about album covers. One prolific designer was asked what a classic one was. He replied that if the band is still around in 40 years, then their early album sleeve designs are often classed as classics, even if they were not very good ones! I think the same often applies to book covers. If the book is still popular many years after publication, then the original cover is deemed a classic, regardless of how good it was. It's the old belief that it's just the cover that sells the book. Once it may have been true, but not now. Reasons? Think about it.
