Hard Times I really don't go outside much
But like my writing group,
And now we have the virus
I stay in and just drink soup.
I know I am so very old
And need to stay indoors,
But I would rather be outside
or even do the chores.
My husband is so very kind
He cooks and cleans for me.
He helps me when I cannot walk
He's good to me you see.
It's hardest for us oldies
We love to meet our friends.
We chatter over what we've done
But now it all depends
On email and the internet
And calls to kith and kin.
We listen to their grievances
But we just cannot win,
For we are old but once were young
And grew up in the forties
We did our duty helped our folk
Now help us, don't be naughty.
Although we're old and feeble
We played our part in life.
We wed and had our children
So please don't give us strife.
Especially at this awful time
Don't clear the shelves of food.
For we need toilet paper too
Leave some, or we'll be screwed.
We all must stay inside the house
And ponder growing old.
Your hair will grey your back will ache
So please do as you're told.
We oldies find it hard to shop
Especially when we find,
We have to go a dozen times
So please don't be so blind.
Just shop for what you really need
And just obey the rules.
Then we will get through this hard time
And not just act like fools.
