Has anybody tried a blog for their books and if so, are they worth the time and monetary investment? What platform would you recommend? I registered here about a month ago when the board was created, but this is my first post. I have been reading all the other threads with interest since its inception. My books are all music-orinented, but of course, blogs can be made for any author and any genre. Here is my spotlight on lulu: link www.lulu.com/spotlight/guitarpupilandteacherduets

If an author has some name recognition or the subject matter is fairly popular, a blog can't hurt. As for a blog being worth the time and money invested, that tends to depend on what an author is hoping to accomplish. You can do anything from a free Wix site to paid hosting. The links below might help you decide what's best for your particular need.

Hello Adrian. So glad you have started posting. There are people on here that will be able to tell you about whether blogs are worth the time and money. I went to your site at Lulu. (I found some on Amazon) Your books are very interesting but rather expensive. My son writes similar books but he tells me they are quite hard to sell. Mostly his music friends or people like his daughter's violin teacher order his books through him. This brings the price down a little. Hopefully someone will know about the subject of blogs. All the best.

All the best. Thanks for your response In fact, I am often told that my music books are very inexpensive. It is not uncommon to find a single sheet with just four or five pages for around £5 and my books are whole collections in A4 for only around £12. The most recent book is £25 but is aimed at the academic market and is 170k words long - so I think the price is again at the low end. But thanks for looking My books do sell quite well, but nothing to make a career of, but that was never the plan. I am exploring the option of blogs as some of my more recent books encourage musical debate.

Yes your books are different from my son's adrianallan. He focuses more on the history of different types of music. I'm pleased to hear your books are selling and I hope the blog sites that Sphinx-Cameron has given will be helpful. GOOD LUCK.

Since I last posted I have been busy building a blog-style website. I use Hostgator.com and their Wordpress plug-in. You can see the progress so far here: paulmccartneyafterthebeatles.com/

Since I don't do Facepain the Messenger chat isn't as useful for me, though there are plenty of people who will find it beneficial.

thanks for looking at the blog - I have my son to credit for that. Like most teenagers, he leaves me behind when it comes to technology. He designed and implemented it.
I will post the improvements over the next few days
And more importantly I will tell you of its impact on sales - although I imagine that my sort of book is quite different from what most of you are writing. I will tell all my Facebook friends about the blog when it is ready, and I hope that will drive traffic in that direction.

Thanks, Ron - this, to me, is what the internet is all about Lots of people collaborated with my book, providing photos (So I didn't run into copyright issues) and editing. A page in my website will be about the "contributors", where I will describe their role, and provide a link if they too have a web page that they want to promote. Will let you know when the site is ready to go.

Will let you know when the site is ready to go. Please do! Hi Ron After working on this site all day it is now ready, but will be updated - like all blogs. If you want to share it, that would be great If anybody else wants to take a look and make comments or suggestions, then that would also be appreciated. paulmccartneyafterthebeatles.com/

adrianallen I think your site is very good. I belong to the Frank Sinatra era, but I think McCartney fans will love your books and learn a great deal about his music. I had no idea McCartney couldn't read or write music until I read it on your site. I looked him up and read his interview on 60 minutes where he said “I don’t see music as dots on a page. It’s something in my head that goes on.” He certainly was a great musician and composer. I too will post your site on my facebook page.
