Here is a cover I just today completed for my friend Lois. It was composed mainly of materials from my own files. The background is a photo taken in an Italian church. The floor was taken from an entirely different photo. The large blue figure is my wife. She also posed for the kneeling figure, though the face, parts of the arms and large parts of the costume were done mostly by hand. The prone figure was found in the Library of Congress photo collection (it was a wounded WWI soldier). His raised hand was added separately.

I just finished up a long-awaited and badly needed second edition of my first book. I wanted to spruce up the cover to distinguish it from the first edition but didn't have much free time to devote to it, nor do I have pictures of castle and horsemen and swords and such, so I put a little color into the mix and came up with this:
I think it is a little catchier than its predecessor.

I think it is a lot catchier than its predecessor! I like the yin/yang effect of the graphic and the one little red dot for the dragon's eye is a nice touch. Actually, the only thing that kind of bothers me is the apostrophe in "Castle's." I would try to replace it with one more like this (which would still match the typeface). It would look better than the straight one.

How about a Bowie knife and a sword?
I have others, but possibly not the exact type you're looking for.

This locker is almost identical to what the majority of my edges are stored in, sans boxes on top. The work in question has also survived multiple children dancing on it.

If you need a dagger to go with a sword, the two I don't have to work to get to even though the handles aren't the greatest [free-hand without the greatest tools], but passable for a castle era.

Wow! I like that castle, Ron! Thanks for the link to the library. Maybe one of these days I'll have the time to sit down and learn about all of this image-merging magic. Working and living and eking out moments for writing seem to get in the way right now though. For now, I'll have to be satisfied with what I have.

The LoC collection is mesmerizing to browse through!

I thought I recognised it Ron. My husband and I were determined to visit Carcossone before we left France. I'm so glad we did! The city is famous for its medieval fortress, Cité de Carcassone, which was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1997. I was disappointed when I visited Lourdes as it was geared towards tourists with cheap souvenirs and long, long queues everwhere. Now although Carcassonne is very dependent on the tourism industry, the city has too much charm for you to be able to resist it. I really enjoyed my visit, Carcassonne has amazing restaurants, lots of history and myths to discover, and plenty of places to take lovely photos

When I get the chance to get back to mesa country I'll see what I can capture -- I'll invest in a decent camera for that.
