Oh so the blue border is showing over top of the cover images? Then click to hide the template and you see the cover itself without the border. Hope I got that right I've taken your advice and learned a lot. Still much more to learn though. I could do the new cover thing on Lulu if need be. To be honest making your own in Photoshop gives you much more creativity in what you can do. Thanks Maggie!

I still don't understand, I guess i"m stupid. I use Paint Shop Pro for my graphics program. You saw above my templates? It would be easier if someone were to please email me at my email address so I could ask questions easier and show my template and covers back and forth because I still don't understand. So I'm reading and I think I'm supposed to carry the template over to my graphics program (which is Paint Shop Pro that i use). I create my OWN COVERS. Then, am I supposed to make sure my covers cover the entire template? ?? Then what about the spine? Don't I put my info in there, title and author name? See, the old cover creator it put it there for you... and now even to download the barcode, it comes in a format ending it svg.... how do I get that into a jpeg to place on top of the barcode area on the template? Then you know too the template comes over real huge, for instance, I'm doing a 6x9 book and the template comes over like 3759x2775 How do I know what to resize for the one piece? So many questions I still don't understand. ~ Susan Joyner-Stumpf

Inkscape will allow you to save or export an svg file format as jpeg.

Ok so you all so my attachments right? the template and then my covers stretched over the entire template, right? Now you know how the template comes over to your graphics program real huge? aren't I supposed to resize it and then how do I know what to resize it too since i've never done a one piece? And what does flatten mean? Merging all the layers? I use Paint Shop Pro so the language may be different from Photoshop, or what others use. I'm confused on those points. Do I do a SAVE AS pdf and then is that what i upload on lulu cover section, the pdf I created from the template? For instance, I'm doing a 6x9 paperback. And I'm supposed to do the spine too? With author name and title? See? I still have so many questions.

I'm not a graphic artist, what I do know is with a huge file change the viewing percentage to something you can work with, as in if 100% is way too much, change the viewing percentage to 75%, 50%, or what ever woks for you.
Ron miller would likely be able to answer your questions in about three minutes, me not so much.

also I don't understand how to open the barcode with the ending format svg. I should not have to buy another graphic program in order to open the barcode. This is not fair, I use Paint Shop Pro, been using it for over 20 years, and that's the graphic program I use and i'm familiar with to create my own covers. Yet it doesn't support opening this barcode so how in the world am I supposed to open it and place it on my back cover? See how hard this is? the old way had the barcode on the back cover FOR YOU. Now they don't. I'm very sad. Thank you all for being patient with me. Please help.

Benziger offered it in one of his earlier posts but it's probably hard to find if you are hurting from the learning curve. And it's just that. A learning curve.
You can download as a jpeg. Import into Paint Shop Pro, increase size and resolution to 300 dpi.

Just create a layer the same color as the edges of your book, place that over your template (I use the PDF one, but you can use the jpeg one, doesn't matter), then place the parts of your cover, back, front spine, over it. Save as JPEG or print PDF the exact same size as your template, even if your book is just 6x9.
Start doing it. Things will become clearer as you move along. When you get stuck, come back and ask.

Maggie and friends helping; So I found an svg to jpg converter for my Barcode. I've placed it on top of my template (I have the layer lightened so you can see). My template says the barcode dimensions are 3.622 x 1.26. So is that what i needed to size my barcode jpg to? I did that and made it also 300 dpi. I placed it on top of the barcode area in yellow. Is it supposed to take up that whole space? The whole yellow bar space for the barcode? Now am I supposed to put my author name and title on the spine? When I'm ready, you said DO NOT RESIZE THE TEMPLATE, just merge all layers (is that what flatten means?) I will save the layer part just in case and have the merged to save as a pdf? Do I have that right so far? Below is the template with my covers on top again..... this time with my downloaded barcode on top of the yellow area for the barcode. Did I do this right? I also attached the barcode downloaded.

I also attached the barcode downloaded. You do not have to cover the yellow area of the barcode. Make it a bit bigger if it looks too small to you. Add publisher made up name on left back corner and website if you have one. Save an unmerged file before and a separate merged one. Important. You might need the one with layers in future. Print PDF. From merged. You did everything right. Yes, put your name and title on spine, far enough from all border indicators. Show us when done.

Maggie, when you say make a layer BACKGROUND same color as edges of my book color, do you mean take one of my covers, turn it into the color of my cover and place it over the back and front template and then place my real covers on TOP Of that layer THAT'S ONLY A COLORED LAYER? I have the template, then the layer that matches the size of my covers, then the covers themselves? ? I'm confused, sorry. I don't understand what you mean to have a layer background the color of the edges of my covers. We have the template, and my front and back cover. In between the template and my covers is a LAYER the color of my book covers? The size of my template or covers and the color of my cover and then the covers ON TOP OF THAT? ?? Also, I had sized the barcode jpg according to the template which reads 3.622 x 1.26 and if it's too big, then, i'm not sizing it according to the template? Then how do I know how big or small to make it if not going by the dimensions of the barcode area of the template? So i'm still confused now what size to make my downloaded barcode, since i was making it the size on the template but you said I did not have to use up the entire yellow space area on the template. Then what size do I make it? Attached is my template, then a layer the color of my book cover (I took one of my covers, make it all the same color in the cover and placed the front and back Layered only color on top of the template); then my covers ON TOP OF THAT. Is that right? I also resized the barcode SMALLER and placed that in the yellow area of the barcode......so it doesn't take up the entire yellow area. Where it's placed, it is ok see my attachment
