I just tested the new site until the cover stage. It appears that indeed there are only four templates available for those who wish to use something akin to the old cover designer. No option is offered to remove "bars" and shapes. I think that a simpler template is necessary, where a ready-made front and back image can be added.

Basically, you're right. The question is, of course, how the new cover designer will be.
- How easy.
- How intuitive.
- How sophisticated.
And above all, when it's due. In April, it was suggested that it might come between June and August. If the same computer technicians are working on it, then the timing is probably wrong. If another team is working on it at the same time - we will be surprised.

I would also remove the unnecessary, frightening red exclamation notices. If people think they are doing something wrong at every step they will leave.

There's a much better cover designer in the works. It's like using Canva, but with only book cover options and the 'canvas' is preset to your cover dimensions.

I think people are going to be better off making their own covers. Although I've seen some nice tutorials on Canva I'd rather make my own now with photoshop. So glad I learned to how to that.

Putting aside the subject of “cover templates” for the time being, and hopefully for a more detailed discussion I’m really pleased to hear that someone has taken a detailed look at the new site. I’m getting fed up of logging into this group and hearing nothing but moans about the “new site.” I also over recent days have examined each step and part of the new Lulu Web Site and my conclusion is that it is extremely well designed. I have created six different books of various layouts to check the functionality of each, all straightforwardly and without problem. The various page and sections of the web site have good logical layouts and for anyone with a modicum of web awareness easy to navigate and use. I see no reason why anyone capable of using modern word processing software should not be able to create, publish and sell a book as has always been the case with Lulu over the last nearly twenty years. In fact if I remember clearly Lulu’ers like Maggie, Kevin and myself would have been delighted with such an interface for our very first foray with North Carolina. It appears to me that the majority of those moaning and constantly whingeing are complaining about some small areas of detail concerning their accounts or poor communications with Lulu and just placing the blame on “the web site”. They should all take some time out and do as Maggie and I have and take a full investigative look at each and every page of the new web site. Rant Over.

The site works very well for me. I have published or revised three books with it since the change started working and I have nothing but praise for the functionality of the create and revise tools. The one-piece cover previewer is a HUGE improvement over the old one! Vastly improved!
The big gripe I have is that there is no longer a preview utility for prospective buyers to "see inside" the book. the old site had a very useful tool in that regard.
The other big gripe is the trust issue. People are having huge and on-going problems with distribution that is directly and significantly hitting them in the pocketbook with not a word of explanation.
Lulu's apparent lack of communication with their partners is shameful, at best.
