I thought I'd mastered the all in one cover. I downloaded the template made it into a jpg and made the cover the exact same size. (I used paint shop pro) I then made it into a PDF. The cover was rejected. Could it be because I printed to the free PDF995? I have always used this to convert files to PDF but in the old Lulu we used jpg images for the cover(I used the old cover) I never converted the cover to a PDF. I checked and double-checked the cover and it was exactly the size of the template. I am wondering if there is something wrong with Lulu's cover section or is it my conversion using 995? What you did is perfect. Did they say why it was rejected? The PDF creator shouldn't be the problem as I test uploaded a standard PDF two days ago to see if they would accept it. They did.
What did they say exactly?

Could you give this a try instead, it worked for me just recently and I use PSP as well.... Bypass PDF995 completely by downloading a free program called Image To PDF or XPS from Compulsivecode.comRun the program, change Settings to:
Output Type - PDF Output File Setting - Single PDF named (whatever.pdf) Write Files To (whatever path) Page Size\Output Setting - Select Match Image Size+Margins Margins - Set all to zero
Image Position - Centered Click Add Files and add the JPG you saved from PSP. Click Save Output. Check PDF dimensions are the same as the original PDF Template.
If this file is accepted by Lulu then you know the problem was with PDF995. If it's not accepted then the problem may be with whatever you used to convert the Template PDF to a jpg and\or the DPI setting somewhere along the line.
Hope this helps.

Thank you. This is what Lulu wrote------
"Book Size: Your PDF dimensions are 8.264" x 11.694" (209.90mm x 297.04mm)For the book size you selected, the PDF dimensions need to be within 11.998"-12.123" x 8.458"-8.583". (304.74mm-307.91mm x 214.82mm-218.00mm). Please update your PDF dimensions or select a different book size.
They are suggesting my dimensions are wrong, so maybe by using 995 it changed the dimensions.
However I will try compulsivecode.com
Here's keeping fingers crossed.

Via experience I always do what Lulu suggested anyway. I too upload two jpgs. One for the entire front cover and another for the entire back cover. But first I ensure that the front spine and back are the same colour as the edges of my images so there should be no whiteness possible (unless I want white of course!) My art and text is also kept well away from the edges of the jpgs, because I also learned they are often not centralised perfectly. I personally have not had anything printed recently so I have no idea if that is still working as expected, though.
I recall Lulu expecting a specific type of PDF, but I cannot recall what! It used to also apply to PDFs for pages.

I checked the dimensions of the jpg in PSP and the cover was the right size. Then I did what you suggested bizzley and got a PDF file which I saved and downloaded to Lulu. They still rejected the cover. Have you made an all in one cover in the new Lulu bizzley?

I checked the dimensions of the jpg in PSP and the cover was the right size. Then I did what you suggested bizzley and got a PDF file which I saved and downloaded to Lulu. They still rejected the cover. Have you made an all in one cover in the new Lulu bizzley? I have made two covers for drafts in the last few weeks that I have had printed out using this PDF to JPG to PDF method, also before replying to your last message I tested this again to make sure nothing had changed in the meantime. Before replying now I did the same thing i.e.
Downloaded the cover template that Lulu generates (I know that it's unique to me since it has my page count for the spine dimension) Converted the PDF to a JPG using a free PDF to JPG program Loaded it into PSP7, did a quick scribble over, saved it back out to JPG Converted it back to a PDF with the Compulsivecode software Used the Replace Your PDF option in Lulu to overwrite an older draft copy cover with this new JPG.
Everything worked fine.
Now that we are (finally!) able to Delete drafts and older versions from the Projects page I will go in and create a dummy book from scratch in case this has something to do with creating a brand new file rather than updating an existing one and let you know what happens.
EDIT. I've just realized that the Error Message you got from Lulu is referring to a different orientation. Assuming you're trying to create an A4 Portrait publication (8.27x11.69) it's complaining that it doesn't adhere to the (almost) A4 Landscape dimensions. Could this be a clue, are you trying to make a Portrait or Landscape book?

Thanks bizzley. I just can't understand why Lulu keeps refusing my cover. Today I asked My husband to check everything and he too was puzzled when Lulu again rejected the cover. It makes me feel so stupid but I have a BA and he has an MA so we must have some intelligence. I wish there was another programme like the old Lulu that will make a book of only 40 pages.
edit I'm making an A5 book. portrait (I thought they were all portrait if you choose A5) However I see what you mean and I will try reversing. Thanks

edit I'm making an A5 book. portrait (I thought they were all portrait if you choose A5) However I see what you mean and I will try reversing. Thanks I've just built a dummy 40 page A5 Portrait book (dimensions 5.83 x 8.5 inch) in MS Publisher using the A5 Template. Uploaded the PDF to Lulu, selected 80gsm paper and then downloaded the template for the cover it created. The dimensions of this cover according to the PDF itself were:
Total Document Size: 12.06 x 8.52 inches which is correct allowing for bleed of 0.25 inch (5.83 + 5.38 + Spine 0.15 + bleed 0.25) (8.5 + 0.25)
Converted Cover PDF to JPG etc. and uploaded result and it all worked. JPG dimensions were: 3618 x 2556
If all these numbers are making your head spin then I can post images of the cover PDF etc. so you can compare with yours, just ask.

Thanks I decided to visit Lulu again and check why they had discareded my cover now they are saying this
Book Size: Your PDF dimensions are 8.264" x 11.694" (209.90mm x 297.04mm)For the book size you selected, the PDF dimensions need to be within 16.869"-16.994" x 11.877"-12.002". (428.46mm-431.64mm x 301.69mm-304.86mm). Please update your PDF dimensions or select a different book size.
That is just in the short while I've been off the computer for the exact A5 cover I had there where they previously wrote

I don't blame you, I have no idea why it's now decided your pages are now a different size for some reason other than to say that's Lulu for you!
I have uploaded the three Test files I created that work to my website, feel free to download them and see if\how they match up with your files. If you want to use them to create a throwaway Project to see if they work for you as well then please do so. I will PM you with the addresses.

This may be off base, but the way I read it: Not only do you have your sizes out of tolerance, but your X and Y dimensions are backwards (does that matter?) from what they want.
You have: 8.264" x 11.694 They Want: 11.998"-12.123" x 8.458"-8.583
Your 8.264 is less than the minimum of 8.458. Your 11.694 is less than the minimum of 11.998.
You need to make it larger.

You need to make it larger. I have tried all the numbers larger that they gave. Now if you see they are asking (for the same A5 book interior)
I have tried all variations within the dimensions they gave me. I think it was because I was using print to PDF so I did it again and did what bizzley suggested and used a free jpg to pdf. I downloaded the file to Lulu and got much higher dimensions for the same A5 interior file---

You do not need to build the Titanic to take a little ride.
Upload a jpeg of the template they give you as a jpeg. I will download it and simplify. Accept my offer. It will help you with all future books. It is probably a very simple task that I know you can do.
