This past week I revised two books and found that the original cover PDF's (from April) were too small. I had to resize them. However, the old covers for the 1st Edition (from years prior) that were residing at Lulu were still working, as far as the distributors were concerned.

Thanks Maggie. I finally received the "untouched" book I ordered, and, as you said, it came out perfectly. I also received my "test book", created under the new system by simply uploading the text and cover pdf files from an old project, and it came out perfectly as well. I'm feeling brave enough now to try revising one of my old books by uploading a new text pdf (same number of pages) and using the old cover pdf. Really? You uploaded an old PDF cover to a current project, without adjusting the size and it printed well? You were not asked to "reconfigure" (resize) according to their new specifications/template?
How is that possible or am I not understanding? Once I revise anything within the project save the payee, I had to upload a new cover. The interior was adjusted automatically.
Ok, let us know any new information you acquire. We are relearning from zero. I suspect your new project with old, unrevised files, will result in rejection. Anyway, I look forward to the knowledge. Thank you.
When I created a new project a couple of weeks ago, using old interior and cover pdf files, it worked fine. I received the printed copy and it's fine. Yesterday I boldly decided to revise one of my old books. I uploaded a new interior pdf (same number of pages, just fixed some typos) and did not touch the cover file at all. (Meaning I didn't upload a new cover file, so it just used the file already there.) Everything worked fine, and it looked fine in preview, so I ordered a printed copy. By the way, after doing all that, just for fun I downloaded the print-ready files for the project, and noticed that there seems to be a very thin (one pixel) white line along the very bottom of the back cover (but not the spine or the front cover). But that seems to have been there even before I revised the project. Also, I checked the print-ready file for another (un-revised) book, and it has the same thing, even though the printed cover doesn't have any white line. Maybe the pdf's have always been that way. It doesn't seem to affect the printed book. Maybe it's so thin that it gets trimmed off.

You can just upload what you need to revise, ignore the rest and proceed to the next step till the end. Good information.

That's interesting and wondering how to break it up into concrete meaning. So, any files prior to April, if untouched will print well. Those created after must be resized?

Mag2024 - that thin white line ... in years past I experienced that as well, but right through the middle of the printed physical copy; checking the downloaded pdf it was there as well - as I said it was quite a few years ago, but from memory it turned out to be a 'digital flaw caused by the electronic transmission of the file' - a disruption in transmission of sorts; I'm not a tech expert. I re-saved the jpg/pdf/.doc whatever it was, without change, reuploaded it, and this time there was no white line. It was like yours just a one pixel line.

Maggie, those two books were in a sort of limbo when the site downgrade occurred.
I had received the proofs on Friday or Saturday morning just hours before the old Lulu was taken down. It was my intention to approve them the following Monday after the "upgrade" had happened, but of course, that never happened.
The "new" Lulu wound up with the newer interiors which I wanted to approve, but with the older covers - the newer covers I wanted to approve had disappeared from the projects.
So this past week I uploaded the newer covers once again to find that they were now rejected for being too small! I re-sized the PDF's to the suggested size and uploaded them without issue and they looked great on the preview. The proofs are ordered. We'll see.

I have had the same experiences as you with regard to uploads and AD different experiences. I, however, do not want to order more proofs. I'm just relying on what my sister tells me. I know nothing for sure anymore. 😞

Basically, what I'm getting is, as before, you get exactly what is in the final proof PDF. Which means we must now all always download our print files and check them, which is a nuisance if one has uploaded their own print ready PDF. How very exhausting.
Thank you Tasmanianartist. All information is useful.
