BlueAndGold Larika, I sent you private message to test picture attachments. It appears that in a private message you cannot directly attach a photo from your computer. You must have the photo stored on an external server somewhere and then link to it with BBcode or simply enter the URL (web address) to the picture using the Picture Button in the tool bar above the message creation window.
I received the picture Thanks

I love your "It's also not pathetic, it's work in progress." SphinxCameron, Thanks for that. Yes I am going to take on board the suggestions made especially by Ron and try and improve the cartoon. However I'm still not sure whether I should revert back to the paintbox. Drawing straight lines on the computer is so hard.

Larika, the printer will crop off anything near the edges. Tove the bubble far in or add extra background. The printer will also crop your light. make it longer.

Thanks Maggie but I won't place the cartoon near the edge of the page (if I use this cartoon, I'm still not happy with the background)

Thanks Maggie but I won't place the cartoon near the edge of the page (if I use this cartoon, I'm still not happy with the background) It does look much better! Maggie's suggestions about moving some of the elements a little in from the edge is a good one. Even if you don't plan to have the picture go to the edge of the page or cover, you don't want it to look too cramped. I think that perhaps one of the things that you might consider regarding the cage is that it looks a little more like a tunnel. Maybe if you gave it a back wall of bars...and bars that are a little thicker, as you did with the chicken?

The cartoons are so different that I have to try to divorce myself from the subjects (which are both great) and just look at technique! As a cartoon, though, I like the man very much. I think that the computer drawing looks cleaner, too.

I agree with Ron. Even though the hand drawing is gorgeous, the computer drawing will sell more. People are used to that and, strangely, it adds a level of legitimacy.

Thanks both of you, I'll go with the computer. I'm getting better using it for painting.

Larika, only use bubbles where absolutely necessary. You will have more room to play around and move text, etc. if you don't have them.

Maggie I only have one cartoon bubble and probaly won't have any more. Ron, Yes it was a caged-in tunnel. I wanted to try foreshortening, but the background was not good. However I'll put him in some other environment, I'm not sure what yet. Thanks for all the help.

Since "caged-in tunnels" aren't something one runs across too often, I think it would only confuse potential readers. Is it a cage? Is it a tunnel? I think for the purposes of your cover you should make it clearly one or the other (I would suggest "cage").

Thanks Ron, you and Maggie have helped me decide to paint my cartoons on the computer. As for the cover, I haven't decided which of my cartoons will adorn the front, or thought of a title for the book. When I've designed it, I'll post it in "covers" for critiques. PS. Ron why don't you have as your signature your Black Cat Studios.
