As you know, at StreetLib.com, you can also publish audiobooks on demand. You may pay some money and send them your e-book and they will do the rest (at least with Italian voices, I didn't check for other languages). Or you can do ot on your own.
If you record your audiobook yourself, you have to make sure that there is no background noise and that there is no reverb. The following can be disturbing: ventilation of the PC or flushing the toilet of the neighbour. A friend of mine swears by the walk-in closet.
If you create your audiobook on your own or if you ask a studion near you to create it, you have to follow this specifications, that you can publish it with streetlib:
Files
• audio has to be mp3 files
• constant bit rate: 192 Kbps 44 Hz
• average sound level between -24 dB and -14 dB (RMS).
Organisation and names of the mp3 files:
numbered progressively with 3 digits and chapter name, as e.g.:
001_chapter_1.mp3
002_chapter_2.mp3
003_chapter_3.mp3
004_credits.mp3
Write the chapter number or name, adhering to the book’s table of contents, as much as possible.
• no blank spaces.
• all in uppercase, or all in lowercase.
• Do not use special signs like ‘*”,> <| --
• Do not use accents like è, é, à, ü, ö, ä, etc.
• Each number and word of the name of a chapter must be linked by underscore (see examples)
• max 50 characters per file name (including underscores).
• chapters longer than one hour, divide into two or more tracks:
◦ 001_chapter_1_part_1.mp3
◦ 002_chapter_1_part_2.mp3
ID3 TAGs
For better use and display of mp3 files in various applications and audio players, all audio tracks and samples should have ID3 TAGs and 600x600 cover. You can find good software online, including freeware or shareware that allows you to easily assign ID3 TAGs. Streetlib recommends arussian freeware TAGSCANNER, but there are other programs available to do the same, some of them free as well.
Audiobook Cover
• jpg, RGB 72DPI color profile, 2400x2400 px
• Match the book title on the cover to the audiobook name.
• Streetlib suggests to name the coverfile ISBN_Title.jpg.
Some other usefull information:
• Audible doesn't accept free audiobooks.
• at least 5 keywords to have an audiobook listed on Audible.
• upload series in the correct numerical order: First Vol 1, followed by vol 2, then vol 3, ...
• Required information: Name of the autor, but also the name of the narrator. It has to be added at the audiobook’s page in the “Metadata” section, dropdown menu “contributor-nrt”
