Anyway, my next book, being part of a series, will possibly be the last I do at Lulu. The next ones will be at KDP/CreateSpace. Lulu do not seem to have updated their existing software, but totally binned it in favour of something else.
As you know Kevin it took me ages to learn the old Lulu. However once I'd learned how to publish my book I was able to teach others. We loved Lulu. Then they updated and the learning process started over. I looked at other sites but in the end came back to Lulu and published my book, both the printed version an an eBook. I am pleased with the result. However I can understand you wanting to leave them Kevin. Their updating was a backward move.

Lulu's Project Wizards were always fussy about the kind of PDF they would accept. ISO 19005-1 Compliant (PDF/A) The first 1 underlined. That's what I used when using Save As PDF in Word. Has that requirement changed? I have no idea what settings Print to PDF or even Print to File uses, but perhaps Lulu's Wizards may not like those either! For covers I always uploaded JPGs to the Cover Wizards. ... "Print to PDF" doesn't appear to have a PDF/A compliancy setting. However, here are a couple of possibilities (which I've not tried myself BTW). superuser.com/questions/1508436/is-there-a-way-to-set-print-to-pdf-in-word-to-be-pdf-a-compliant

Thanks, that does not help me with PaintShop Pro though, which I don't think even has a Print To File or to PDF option.

My PSP version doesn't have a "print to PDF" option either. I was considering buying a corel version of PSP in ebay, but after Kevin mentioned that doesn't have an option to convert to PDF, I decided to just stick with my old Paint Shop Pro and use one of the free online conversion sites like this one www.adobe.com/uk/acrobat/online/jpg-to-pdf.html

My Paint Shop Pro is Version 5 (purchased in 1998). I just opened a JPG file and went to print it. The available printers (Windows 10) in the Print dialogue window includes "Microsoft Print to PDF", which I duly selected. It did then save my jpg into a PDF file.
In all the years I've used PSP, I've never had cause to do that before. I always used the old Lulu cover-design wizard and dropped any JPG into the appropriate template.

So to use "Microsoft Print to PDF" do you have to have Word? I simply downloaded "PDF 995" and select "print to 995." This is fine for converting files but mine never managed my all-in-one covers. I had to use "adobe online, convert jpg to PDF."

I have no idea. I assume if using Word to create a PDF, then it will be Save(ing) a docx as a PDF.

The Adobe one looks good and reasonably priced. I'm sure Lulu would accept the PDF files. Lulu accepted my PDF file that I did on line using the free online Adobe converter. Thanks Kevin.
