I gritted my teeth and knuckled under.
With a burning desire to have a tool to verify sales information reported by Lulu, I signed up with Amazon's Author Central and minimally populated the author page to gain access to the NPD BookScan tool. It isn't exhaustive, by any means, but it certainly provides a bit of a sanity check on some of Lulu's sales reporting.
The data only goes back two years but I did an in-depth comparison to what I have recorded during that period and found no discrepancy that wasn't readily explainable. Fair enough!
An added benefit is the ability to see where sales occur geographically. Perhaps not useful, but definitely interesting.
Truthfully, I feel better. I wish I had done this years ago. Thank you for the shove in the right direction! (Yes, I know I'm an old stick in the mud but I eventually come around.)
You can even edit, embellish your description there. Make it longer, add related information. It does not have to be identical to Lulu and is changed overnight. Huge resource. JesusNinja knows about keywords. Perhaps he can jump in.

No matter how much I complained, nothing was done, so I created a mock cover of mine to match the title, and across the cover, readable in thumbnail size, I wrote the short URL to my Lulu spotlight. Uploaded it through my Amazon Author Page, and left it to its own devices. The things we do ...
