I would really like to use Lulu.com because I can order one book when I'm done. But I'm running into roadblocks. When I upload my PDF file, I get 2 errors: 1. Fonts need to be embedded. (so I watch a Youtube video and learn to go to File, Options, Save, and make sure the embedding box is checked. Error still appears.) 2. Your file contains some images with less than 200 pixels per inch. (all images are 2700 x 2700 pixels. My illustrator says that is fine.) Ideas?

Okay, not knowing what WP program you're using all I can do is guess.
In Word 97 you can embed fonts, I do fonts in use. With OO or Office Libre Writer you can do the same. As a test try using an online converter to make your PDF.
On the images, you can ignore the message and complete your upload.

I get the same errors, although I have all embedded fonts (and have done in these PDFs for decades), and I know what resolution my illustrations have - I ignore both. So if you know your files, and know that your fonts are embedded and your pictures are at the required resolution, I would ignore the notes - and no, we do not know why Lulu put them on regardless.
I've had a PDF uploaded with 'all green', no warnings, no error notes - next day, logged in and looked at it, and had 2 warnings ... doh ...

If you are using MS Office, there is a free program/addon you can get. It's called dopdf. Install that and it adds an addon to MS Word. To make a pdf just click on print then choose dopdf for printer. It will show a box. In the box check embed fonts, and use high graphics. Then where you want to save the file. It will do all the work for you. It's what I use and it works every-time.

I've always ignored the resolution advice Lulu gave with all my books and have been completely satisfied with the resulting images. However in Paintshop Pro you can always make the resolution to what they suggest. Also I use the free Office Libre Writer and it embeds the fonts.

Just as an aside, I once did a PDF single-piece cover at 300 DPI and then did the same cover later at 600 DPI. The proof copies were identical. No detectable difference, even with a magnifier. I stuck with the 300 DPI file simply because it was a smaller file size.

It seems Lulu will only accept embedded subsets of Fonts and not fully embedded, so please check that is what you have. Embedded = The entire font including characters not used in the publication. Embedded Subset = Only the characters from a font used in the publication, thus reducing the file size. As others have posted, if you can provide more details such as what WP\DTP software you are using it would help to narrow things down. You can check what fonts are physically in a PDF and whether they are Subsets or not but this depends on the software you use though some software that lets you read PDFs can also provide this information. Though this may seem an insurmountable problem at the moment it's not, try some of the options and software posted above and you'll be in print in no time.

Re: embedded fonts, I haven't published anything on the new Lulu platform yet but, on the old one, Lulu would reject a PDF interior if it wasn't PDF/A compliant (see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PDF/A). MS Word provides this option as a tick-box option when saving your document as a PDF. I've published numerous books and Lulu was always happy with this. Re: image resolution, I always ran into that warning (i.e. your images will display best if at least 300dpi). But, even if you start off with your individual image files at 300dpi, once inserted into your document, MS Word has a nasty habit of reducing image resolution when you save. Further resolution can be lost depending on whether you "print to PDF" or "save as PDF". My books have all been printed on ordinary rather than photographic-quality paper, so a resolution, say, of 200dpi comes out fine, despite Lulu's warning message.

The advice from Sirram did the trick. I needed to PRINT to PDF, not SAVE to PDF. Thanks!

Can't recall the reason but I imagine it strains the printer for no reason.

Saving didn't work for me. But it doesn't matter now. We're dropping Lulu. Too much of a hassle. We're going with a traditional publisher.

Yes I was wondering that too. Does that mean that a traditional Publisher has agreed to accept your book for publication, or are you just going to try to have your book accepted. Do you have an agent? Do let us know.
