Maggie, when I first made the book, I tried them but got no response, which is why I decided to go back to Lulu. I've had a few sales of the printed book. PS Ron explained about following their instructions exactly, which I did.

This is an interesting comment regarding Puppy Dogs ------------------------- This Christian Children's publisher is based in San Diego but the mailing contacts are through Englewood CO. www.puppydogsandicecream.comThey're apparently claiming other publishers' work on their catalog (Eric Carle is published by Penguin!) They came to my attention through this fake 'testimonial': https://main.puppydogsandicecream.co...ay&s3=%5BON%5D Both the 'grandmother' and 'grandson' are stock photos. The 'Cross vs Coronavirus' header is epic. The Church image seems to come from a pastor's website (DesiringGoddotOrg) ------------------------ Regarding the Eric Carle book... They do list at least one of his books but it is one published by Chronicle Books. Contrary to what the quoted post says, they are not taking credit for other publisher's works...but you do have to click on "Description" to see who the original publisher is. Clicking randomly among the books in the Puppy Dogs catalog shows that many are actually published by companies other than Puppy Dogs. For instance, books by Henry Holt and Random House. I am not sure why they are including books by other publishers in their catalog. However, it does leave a browser with the impression that they are they publisher of popular authors such as Eric Carle, Charles Schultz and the Berenstains, among others. Among a few other observations I found regarding Puppy Dogs is this comment about a Facebook ad for the company, soliciting author submissions: "Their Facebook ad has several major grammatical errors. They have no idea how apostrophes work (or commas!). They claim that other publishers don't pay authors for 'years and years' after their book comes out. And they literally finish the ad with 'Make your dreams comes true'. And - good god - all the comments under the ad are people who got excited and plan to submit to them." Needless to say, anyone who claims that a traditional publisher takes "years and years" to pay an author or who promise success needs to be approached carefully.

Great research, Ron.
It's good to see you! Where have you been hiding?

It will be interesting to see what they do with the form I filled in ronmiller. They didn't want a file of the book.

Good grief! That story has got to be up there with the worst of Jack Chick.

I miss "Preditors and Editors", but as Ron stated there are warning signs. As a rule reputable publishing companies do post information. Looking at PD&I's site check out the faqs. shop.puppydogsandicecream.com/pages/contact-us#faq"Puppy Dogs and Ice Cream is a small, independent children's book publisher based in sunny San Diego, California." Odd thing is the contact address [snail-mail] is Englewood, Colorado. Something else to make you wonder is submissions. My last submission to a much larger publisher stated it can take nine months to a year to hear back, unless your work gets quickly rejected [Baen gets a lot of submissions]. PD&I being a small independent publisher you'd think there's less of a wait, but you don't know because all the faqs say is you can submit and then there's a form to start the process. Since children's books are a lucrative market, while one wouldn't expect a small publisher to do business exactly like a larger house, you should expect some similarity. www.baen.com/submitThe PD&I site looks more like an outlet for book sales or possibly self-publishing than publishing.

I agree. They may be perfectly OK...but by the same token there are a lot of red flags---things that one just would not expect to see from a legitimate publishing company.

You can expect to see what a publisher [whether Romance, Speculative, Historical, etc...] wants without having to fill out a form that basically occults the process.
Caveat emptor
