Effective February 15th, 2021, ebooks using Lulu Global Distribution will require a one-time fee of $4.99 to complete processing. This fee applies to all newly published ebooks that opt-in to Global Distribution. This fee does not apply to revisions of any new or existing projects.
.....and Larika wanted free.

Next morning....couldn't find it when I logged on....they have obviously taken it down...

Maybe Lulu likes Irving Berlin who made in 1946 for the Broadway musical Annie Get Your Gun a song that was first performed by Ethel Merman and Ray Middleton that describes the situation well: www.youtube.com/watch?v=WO23WBji_Z0

Next morning....couldn't find it when I logged on....they have obviously taken it down... The services Lulu Press used to offer like reviews, editing, and so on came with a hefty markup over what an author would usually pay on their own.
I retired paperback and hardcover versions of three books [as soon as the option returned back in July 2020], yet going on six months later they're still showing as available at Amazon and elsewhere. I'll be contacting the various outlets this month since Lulu Press obviously isn't up to the task.
Having watched Lulu Press' slow-mo train-wreck upgrade [working on nine months now], it isn't surprising the company is finding new ways to garner revenue. It's up to you if you wish to continue with their business as it is now usual.

I suspect as long as there are used copies of your works available, Amazon will list them.
Amazon IS a USED BOOK Dealer. That's how it all started. Then they started selling new books. Then they started selling other things. Now they sell their selling facilities. But they will always sell used books. They will never go away.

Since these are supposedly new copies of books not printed which I haven't received a royalty for, the used books tag doesn't apply.

Amazon will never take them down. They may be listed as unavailable but they will still be on their site. Of course not. That's because of Google, because only one thing counts there: 1. content, 2. content, 3. content.
If there is always more content on Amazon, and ostensibly everything that is searched for, Amazon appears in all search results among the relevant top 3. That gives walk-in customers. If the book is out of print, the hope remains that they will buy something else. The main thing is that they buy from Amazon and the money rolls in.
(The magic word is search engine optimisation. For us this means: never delete old content on our site... At most, add a link to the current content).

If Amazon and other venues show retired Lulu Press hard copy versions of my work as used or unavailable, no big deal even if they continue to show those versions forever.
If Amazon and other venues show retired Lulu Press hard copy versions of my work as new and available, there is a problem since those versions were retired. It's called false advertising.
