Retread-Retired-Cameron It must be very difficult for Texans who are not used to the snow. We heard that President Biden has declared a state of emergency in Texas. Also the National Weather Service reported that over 73% of the US is currently covered by snow and that at least 21 deaths have been blamed on the widespread storm.

If you are going to call your quango the Electricity Reliability Council of Texas, it is not a good sign when your website goes down. Contacting electricity providers is just one of the problems that the people of the second most populous US state have had to contend with in the past week, as blackouts followed record cold temperatures. At one point on Tuesday, half the state’s normal power capacity was out of action. Predictably enough, Texas’s frosted landscape has become a battleground between climate change sceptics, who blame iced-up wind farms for the power outages and say the cold weather disproves theories of a warming climate, and the green brigade, who point out that the greater part of the problem this week has been frozen gas infrastructure. They claim that freezing temperatures are actually evidence of an overheating Earth. Yet the real lesson of the Texas big freeze isn’t really about climate change. In fact, it’s far more limited: that Texas doesn’t have a reliable and weather-proof energy infrastructure. All sorts of equipment collapsed: wind turbines, gas plants, power lines. Moreover, they did so at time when, thanks to the cold, demand for energy soared. At one point wholesale energy prices hit $900 (£642) per MWh compared with the normal $25 per MWh. I've read the news reports as well, including the ones mentioning that had the electricity providers paid the extra money so their equipment would function in severe winter weather then the issues wouldn't have been half as bad.
On that note I'll shut up, because it tends to piss me off when officially sanctioned incompetence combined with greed gets people killed.

Texas is Hell. My ex girlfriend was from El Paso LOL. All kidding aside, it's gotten as low as 20 below zero here plenty of times. I mean it's Winter it's supposed to get cold.

The East coast of America has really been badly hit by the snowstorm Retread-Retired-Cameron and it must be very difficult for those states which are not geared up for this kind of weather. On top of that the storm has also halted vaccine distribution in Connecticut, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Philadelphia, parts of Washington, DC and the New York area.

I troll occasionally, to see if the Lulu miracle has happened yet - nope it hasn't, but had to login for this one, cos we saw on television a car under an ice waterfall - looked like it was parked in a carport, but the rain (or whatever hellish discharge it was) had frozen into a winter Niagara-Fall lookalike sculpture. Whoa ... where is the climate going with us? THAT picture was not Texas at all - maybe my hubby is right, and we are heading for another ice age ... happy feet here we come. Yep, here in the Wild Southern Ocean, we're prepared to do without electricity if things go awry - as they do with regular regularity at least once a year. We haven't had a summery summer here in Australia, either, but neither did we have half the continent burnt to cinders again ... ... ha ha - a post to my liking - it's funny how, reaching a certain age, the most interesting and captivating topic for a chinwag, chat or even half-serious discussion is THE WEATHER. Here's hoping that Texas will soon thaw... Cheerio from Tassie

I am hanging on to Lulu with my old books hoping like you that the "miracle" will happen. However if anything it's got worse. Now you have to pay for your ebooks to go global. I self-published my latest ebook with Draft2Digital.
