By the bye, seemingly unlikely things can happen. A book that I wrote 20 years ago--- The Art of Chesley Bonestell---has been out of print for nearly that long. Yet it became the basis for a feature documentary that premiered last Spring at the Newport Beach Film Festival. So one can never tell! One could posit you're a better writer and the quality of your work has stood the test of time.
And yes, unlikely things do happen in life. I met a distant cousin years ago, our respective ancestors went their separate ways a bit over a century earlier. Each of us remembered the story of the brothers who parted ways in an effort to find a place where they could start over.
Time to grab a bite and get back to work, the underbrush won't clear itself. Now that would be an unlikely happening I'd be glad to see since cacti and juniper fight back.

You can also try Inkscape, a vector graphics editor available for Win-whatever-it-is-now, Mac OS, as well as Linux.

Well, there was probably a little luck involved, too. The producer/director was a life-long fan of the artist who was the subject of the book...and I had written the only book about him so there was really no other source to go to. It was brilliantly written, of course, but just saying...

It's surprising that there is only one book/bio about Bonnestell, considering the impact his work had on so many of the boomers. I remember with clarity checking his lovely book out of the elementary school library and gazing at the paintings for hours...

Luck only goes so far, since if you hadn't written the one book the producer / director would have had to hire someone who likely would have had much less talent.
Now back to my movie: "I didn't ax-murder anyone -- the juniper fought back!" Just think, it's in Technicolor, mostly blood scarlet.

Ron, I agree with this: I think there is a lot attached to the fact that someone else thinks enough of your work to invest a considerable amount of time, effort and money into publishing your book. There's much to be said for that kind of validation.
That, I never got from a publisher, but I got a different kind of validation when someone paid money because they liked the look and description, and basic setup. Then, when I got a positive review, oh, huge validation. On top of that when the book sold and sold and kept selling, I was flying. And now, my latest thrill, bookstores, that order books mostly from traditional publishers, can't tell the difference between mine and theirs.
So, ultimately you are right. If you want to write, then doing it all is not for you. I wanted more than just to write. I wanted to do it all. We do end up doing what we are meant to do. for me, it's all of it.
Regarding your wink, thank you. The skills didn't happen overnight. When I was in university I thought, what am I going to do with an English lit degree? It's not really a career degree. Well, I decided, I have to study what I love. So, I guess life led me to where I'm supposed to be.

You are absolutely right about the validation a reader can bring!

Cameron, my instinct tells me you just need one Kirkus review. If they love the book they send it to movie and tv series producers. That happened to a local author, in a similar genre as your own. Huge huge demand. They're running out of ideas. They need you more than you need them. I had considered a Kirkus review, but on a near poverty-line budget for another year, it will have to wait. "Mono-Earth: The War of the Egg" would easily translate into three movies, I just have two concerns.
First, Hollywood often does a poor job of adapting novels to movies. Andre Norton's "The Beastmaster" [Harcourt, 1959] comes to mind. "The Beastmaster" adaptation [1982, starring Marc Singer] in the end credits mentions the movie being based on a novel by Andre Norton. The end credits should have stated: 'Based so flipping loosely on a novel by Andre Norton if you read the book you won't recognize this movie and vice versa'.
Second, while I'd like to see my oldest brother and his family, I have some relatives where it hasn't been nearly long enough since I last saw them, for two of them in particular twenty years is way too short a time. If a movie were made from my work I have little doubt the very people who repeatedly extended their metaphorical middle fingers toward me for decades would show up all smiles. I'd really hate to have to smite one of them as they're really full of it and I have no desire to clean up their messes after them; done enough of that already.
Back to work on an access lane tomorrow, that is something i can do with what I have as long as the bow-saw doesn't break; it's old. Cameron, welcome it and the consequences of seeing your family in your mind and it will happen. Also, look at The Handmaid's Tale and many other series, the series is only based loosely on the book. Doesn't matter. If people like the movie or series, they buy the book. You will be rich.

Maggie,
With the way things go for me I can snatch poverty from the jaws of wealth. Since I can't afford a review, it's not happening.
And yes, it's nice being acquainted with someone like Ron who achieved success in his chosen fields.
