Hi, I have a query about the retire and delete functions. As I understand it, the retire option pre-New Lulu was that the project would not be available for sale and the file would be deleted from Lulu's database after a year. Now with the so-called New Lulu, I'm wondering if this is still the case. There's no more mention in the Retire option that the file would be deleted after a year, and the Delete function applies only to unpublished projects. Which makes me feel that Lulu is trying to prevent us from removing our files from their database, which is disgusting imo. Or am I just overthinking it?

I do not know about retired projects. However: It was my understanding in the pre-update days, that any file used in a book that sold a single copy would never be deleted by Lulu, so even old files used as prototypes by the author were un-deletable by the author, even after a period of time. That was very irritating to me because I like to keep a tidy folder. I have no idea what the current policy is, or what it would be with retired projects, but I would suspect there is something similar set in place. I detect the unmistakable scent of lawyer fingerprints.
Ask Lulu!
Be sure to let us know what you learn.

Ana, you are correct as to before and after. The stated reason is that a project once registered cannot be fully deleted for legal reasons. I’m sure that the current method of still not showing Retired projects is being addressed whilst alternative legal means are pursued.

Thanks BlueandGold and Elken! Lulu isn't answering to any questions and my customer support ticket that was sent two months ago was never replied to. I've heard that there's going to be legal action against Lulu's non-deletion policy, but I've never seen any concrete action in place yet. It'd be good if there was, because Lulu really needs to get its ethics together.

The issue of unanswered tickets is indeed tedious. Experience shows that it works if you insist: - the ticket is closed before it is processed: Answers with the terse remarks that the case is still unresolved and should please be solved.
- the ticket is not processed:
- If you still know the ticket number: reply and ask until when it will be processed. Most of the time it's done in a jiffy.
- If you no longer know the ticket number: open a new ticket with the request to process the ticket from (e.g. month name). Internally, they will find it quickly because it is linked to the e-mail address.
I always make a note and ask for it after a week - if necessary. Another possibility: You can open an account on the ticket page and dial in there. There you can see all the ticktes that have been created with the corresponding email address and can act.

Lulu used to also store our files on the server. You could look into "My Files" and download the .doc files you uploaded. This came in handy quite often when I lost one on the pc. But now you can only download a pdf or epub which is useless if you need to revise or replace old backups. Between this, losing money, support changing to automation which means nonexistant, I'm really not happy.

With InDesign you can import a PDFs. The complete PDF can be imported or individual pages one at a time.
....... and of course you can export an InDesign page or book as a Microsoft Word doc.

The .docs are no longer stored as far I know. If you download your files they come as epub and pdf for the cover.
