I’m new here. I published this book a little while ago and I’d love feedback on the cover. It’s a humour book, an episode by episode critique of Sex and the City, a sitcom that started in the 90s that was considered very raunchy and new in its time (but is now a little dated). I’ve picked apart many scenes in the episodes and the movies, using a dryly critical but humorous voice. Those who’ve watch the series will get a few laughs reading this book. Please tell me what you think about the cover. Many thanks!

Well...a couple of things...
The frame doesn't really serve much purpose other than making all of the visual elements proportionally smaller. There is just too much going on, with no real central focus...and the over-decorative "plotholes" simply does not work at thumbnail size.
The legs are floating in space and in any case I am not sure what they really say about either the theme of the show or the book.
The author's name is tucked into a corner like an afterthought. Why it is lowercase I am not sure.
I have no idea what that white shape in the right-hand corner is.
If you have a quote on the cover you should include a source.

Agreed. The big pink frame is a distraction from the title and at thumbnail size it is a strain to make out "plotholes" against the dark pant leg as well as the transition to the pink. It sort of reminds me of advertising that comes in the mail or a gossip rag in the check-out lane at a grocery store. Ron: The white shape in the lower right represents a hole through the book. "Holes in the plot." I think.

Thanks for this. Would have been good to get this feedback before publishing but I will come back with my next cover before I actually print it!
If you were a fan of the Tv show the cover would make a bit more sense. The show is about 4 women and I used the “strong female” feet disappearing into a hole exactly because the show is full of plotholes (which doesn’t make it less enjoyable).
It’s all lowercase, not just my name. And the “quoted” quote is directly from the show, it’s an overused piece of dialogue that gets old. But again, only a fan would recognise that. The following text, I wrote. How would be the best way to include a source in this instance? If I wrote the quote myself with my name underneath is that acceptable?

No. Don't quote yourself on the cover. That would look really tacky. Even allowing for all the in jokes, the cover still doesn't work on pretty much every level everyone listed.

I agree with both BlueAndGold and ronmiller. Ron is a professional illustrator and writer. He has made many professional book covers. You may find this site of his helpful hobbes . bookcoverbasics.tumblr.com Here's his studio www.black-cat-studios.com/ I never watched Sex and the City, but I know it was very popular. GOOD LUCK with your book.
