I thught it would be so easy. I thought I'd mastered the all in one cover in Lulu. I successfully published Let's be Kind using my all in one cover. Anyway I am making a private book for my family and I sucessfully downloaded the text but then disaster. I got the dimensions exactly right and converted the jpg to a PDF. However I got this. " Book Size: Your PDF dimensions are 11.708" x 8.222" (297.39mm x 208.84mm)For the book size you selected, the PDF dimensions need to be within 12.043"-12.168" x 8.458"-8.583". (305.88mm-309.06mm x 214.82mm-218.00mm). Please update your PDF dimensions or select a different book size."I had made the cover within the size given by Lulu but it was rejected.

Larika let me suggest you check the perceived size of your PDF by viewing it in Acrobat and checking the properties. I've had issues where I knew my document was the correct size only to find that it really wasn't. I don't know if this is a resolution issue or what. But then, Lulu's software may have had too many Mimosas this morning. You'll get plenty of help here I'm sure but feel free to message me if you can't resolve it. I've stumbled a LOT, and thus learned

Liz, Your PDF conversion is wrong. I just knocked up and similar book and what Lulu wants is correct.

View Attachment Hi Larika,
I understand. I've had that happen on all of my books. Sometimes the message appears telling me to change the size several times before I hit the right one. I use this website avepdf.com/en to resize .pdf, to flatten layers, to change .jpg to .pdf, etc.
You may have to click the link a couple of times to get the site to load from here. I don't know why, but when I tested it, the link wouldn't load the page on the first try, but it did when I closed that tab and clicked the link again.
It's a really good site and I hope it helps you to change the size of your cover quickly. Even if Lulu tells you to do it several times, as it has done to me. I hope this helps with that tedious resizing.

Fantastic. Never heard of this website. A virtual Swiss Army Knife of PDF surgery. Thanks so much. I've used PDFill Tools but this surpasses it by light years.

Thank you all, I was so confident after I made my last book "Let's be Kind." I thought I had finally mastered the cover, only to find the rejection. I'll check out avepdf thanks TynerMason. Last time I used Adobe free online converter to change my jpg to a pdf. This time it didn't work. Ken I have 60 pages of 60 white in my book. I will have another go today.

Well I tried avepdf.com/en and converted my jpg cover to a pdf. (The exact size as the template I'd downloaded from Lulu) and again it was rejected. So I tried Adobe free on line converter and this time they wanted money from me. I guess they only give you one free go and I'd used that up. I know the rejection is because the conversion somehow alters the size of my jpg cover.I might try lulu's canva. I'll check that out. My husband keeps saying, "It's that awful Lulu again, GO SOMEWHERE ELSE." I've decided to try MyBestSeller. Thanks all.

You can always email me your JPG and I’ll convert it for you and also verify on Lulu.
One other question have you checked the JPG dimensions against the Lulu PDF requirement.

Thanks Ken,I may take you up on that. I still might go with Lulu. I'll check out Canva this afternoon.
Yes I checked the JPG dimensions against the Lulu PDF requirement.
PS I fear it might be my antiquated equipment, plus the fact that my son mover to California, that my comp. is in such a poor state. My son looked after it for me. He's a whiz on the computer.

Well MyBestSeller is out. I couldn't see a private option like they have on Lulu. I don't wan't to publish the book, just print up copies for my family. Now if only they had kept the old cover. I made 50 books with Lulu (Most of them private) before the disastrous update. The old is so much more lovable. Out with the new and in with the old.

Liz, I just created a 60 page A5 book with InDesign and exported a PDF from it. Started a new Lulu Project and uploaded that PDF. Chose standard white paper with paper back binding. Lulu prompted 12.105” x 8.52” for a cover. I then created a blank image of that size in Photoshop, added the cover image you discussed earlier placing it on the right. Saved image checking the dimensions hadn’t changed. Saved it as a PDF. Checked for no change to dimensions. Back to Lulu project and uploaded the PDF which was accepted straight away. No problems. P.S. Some weeks ago you were having other Internet problems and I suggested that your hardware/software could be the culprit, especially Chrome. I suggested then and repeat, if possible use Firefox as your browser for this sort of work.

I often use Firefox on my computer I have both Firefox and Chrome on my Comp.. It's on my Chromepad that I must use Chrome. I don't make my books on the Chromepad. I think it's because you have Indesign and can easily convert to PDF that your cover was successful, Well done! It's initially converting the Lulu PDF template into a jpg (on line) and then converting the jpg to a pdf (on line) that causes the problems. I use Paint shop Pro and you cannot convert PDF to jpg or jpg to PDF with that. I'll investigate the Indesign free trial, but it's an expensive software application.
