Fellow authors and artists,
Just wanted to say that although I'm not here on a regular basis, I am grateful for the help that I am given. Questions are answered, reviews are given, and truth (whether I like it or not) is told. Flaws and errors are highlighted. You're told what works and what doesn't work, (and like I said, sometimes it's a tough pill to swallow), but the objective is they want you to show your best work. It good to be in a place where others genuinely want you to be better, do better, and to see you succeed.
It has all been very helpful to me. I still consider myself to be a novice writer, even though I have several books out, most of which hasn't seen the light of day. But they are there.
So this post is a THANK YOU to one and all who have aided me over the years starting from the original lulu forum.

Honest assessments may have a sour taste at times but they do help us improve.

We must be willing to kill our children, as Stephen King advised. That's a hard pill to swallow sometimes. I checked out the quote on google BlueAndGold. and as the quote below states I would have sleepless nights too if I read the book. "The reader may well have a couple of sleepless nights mulling over the dark choices and outcomes here. If you like this, read: Orphan X by Gregg Hurwitz (Penguin, 2016, $17.66, Books Kinokuniya), about a 12-year-old who is trained to be an assassin." www.straitstimes.com/lifestyle/entertainment/stephen-king-asks-if-killing-kids-can-be-a-necessary-evilHere in the UK we don't have the death penalty for murder. However when two 10 year old boys (Thompson and Venables) killed the toddler James Bulger, many people wanted those boys killed. When they were eventually released Thompson was not heard of again and is living somewhere in the UK. Jon Venables on the other hand has continued his life of crime. Since being freed, Venables is thought to have cost the public around £5million. He could now be kept in prison for the rest of his life if the board decides he poses too much of a risk to ever be freed again.

Well, google got it wrong yet again, Larika. The quote of Stephen King I was referring to had nothing to do with a book. It was advice to aspiring writers. In effect, "Be willing to throw away sections you wrote to improve your story."
EDIT: AHA! I found it!
Here is the quote. It was number 21 from a list of 22 bits of advice he gave. I think it was published in Business Insider magazine some years ago:
21. Have the guts to cut.
When revising, writers often have a difficult time letting go of words they spent so much time writing. But, as King advises, "Kill your darlings, kill your darlings, even when it breaks your egocentric little scribbler's heart, kill your darlings."
Although revision is one of the most difficult parts of writing, you need to leave out the boring parts in order to move the story along. In his advice on writing, Vonnegut suggests, "If a sentence, no matter how excellent, does not illuminate your subject in some new and useful way, scratch it out."
Here is a link to the whole list:

By the way, all of these 22 items are worth a read. ^^^^^
