Hi, having just had my book published and selecting direct URL in the bookstore for access, I was surprised to see Lulu is also selling it {at a discount} on eBay. Is this standard practice? I certainly don't welcome it!

You will find that there are a plethora of entities all over the world who list your book for sale, simply because it was published. With my first book I was shocked to see "used copies" for sale by several sellers on Amazon for many times its value the very day after it was first published. There WERE no used copies! The only copy at that point was my proof copy I had received the day before.
Apparently, there are many opportunists who will advertise your book at a slight discount, have it printed by Lulu, et al, for their customer, then make their profit with shipping charges.
These are flies buzzing around the picnic table. An ever-present but generally harmless nuisance.

There are also sellers on Ebay who will list a book as rare with a hefty markup, even though the book was only released recently. They're more like the Africanized-honey bees buzzing around the beers and sodas at a picnic table.

Some of my didactic books used to be offered on e-Bay for a price twice or thrice as the one from Lulu. Those opportunists didn't have a single copy. They waited for the result of the auction, and ordered a copy from Lulu for their customer, thus pocketing the difference. As I didn't lose anything in the process, but gained one sale, I didn't complain.

Give a book an ISBN and anyone can list it for sale. It's not Lulu porting it willynilly retailers get lists of stuff they can stock, and this being POD, it costs them nothing to list them for sale. Stick a book on Amazon and before long dozens of others are advertising it, often insisting they have stock, even Used, which does not show up in sales ... Then there's them who add a crazy markup, often 1000s%. No idea what the purpose of that is. If you also do e-books with ISBNs they will often end up on Subscription sites. 'Just $9 a month for 100000s of free books!' without your permission, and with no dosh coming your way. Often the sites are based in Russia or China, so tough.

Never mind copies of your published book listed as used on eBay, I found out quite by accident that a guy in the UK is selling all of Pencil Tip books at inflated prices, and new, not used. What he does is list them on his eBay page as if he has the book in stock, then when someone orders from him, he goes to our Lulu page and orders the book for the customer and has Lulu ship it to the customer. He sells a copy of our book, we get paid for the ordered copy when he orders it from Lulu at our sale price, but pockets the difference between what he charges the customer and what he pays to order the book. So basically he is making $$$ off the backs of Pencil Tip.
I was quite annoyed when I found this out but then a friend pointer out, yes, what he's doing is a little bit cheeky and underhanded, but we're still managing to sell copies of our books to an audience we may not have reached initially. When I thought of it that way, I kind of calmed down about the whole thing.

We/you, have no say or control of the price any retailer can charge. It's up to them. It's not underhand, it's just the way it is, and at least it's a sale for you too. There's times Amazon even have special offers that are a loss to them, but they still have to pay via Lulu our set price.
BTW. Do your books have ISBNs? If not then it is a bit cheeky and you have to wonder how he found them in the first place. Lulu user?

As the Canadians used to say, when it was part of the Roman Empire, "Caveat Emptor, eh."

Rome famously invaded Canada. Only as far as Molson's wall. It was too cold for them to stay, so they retreated back to Ireland.
