Personally, usually fiction and usually SF and F. And normally from shops who are donated stuff to sell, with the proceeds going to named charities.

I prefer biographies, lifestories, such as privateer Trelawney's memoirs, Quentin Crisp's The Naked Civil Servant, Mrs. Fay's correspondence, etc.

No fiction? BTW. Mr Crisp was not a transvestite, as I think someone here said. Or a crossdresser. He was a 'camp' gay during the time it was illegal.
