I am trying to move a book I published in 2012 across to a different Lulu account. Lulu Support tells me I cannot actually move it (i.e. cover and interior PDFs). I must create a new project from scratch in the destination account and upload the existing PDFs again.
OK, that was quick and easy, and my PDF interior uploaded to the destination account with no problem. But uploading the cover PDF throws up the following error:
"Book Size: Your PDF dimensions are 16.986" x 11.944" (431.45mm x 303.39mm)For the book size you selected, the PDF dimensions need to be within 16.999"-17.124" x 11.877"-12.002". (431.78mm-434.95mm x 301.69mm-304.86mm). Please update your PDF dimensions or select a different book size."
But I designed the cover using Lulu's old cover-design wizard in 2012 (which disappeared when Lulu moved to its new platform).
Any ideas on how to move forward? I had a look at Lulu's new cover templates but they are awful. And I don't want to redesign the cover from scratch anyway.

One thought is use a graphics editor to make a blank canvass the size you need, import the old cover into that blank file, center it, then gently stretch to fit as it won't take much.

Or you could save the PDF as another PDF specifying the new size.

Just (1) download the Lulu cover template PDF for this very book of yours, (2) paste the old cover on it, (3) adjust, (4) upload the new PDF for the copy. I work with Photoshop. For operations (2) and (3) I use JPEG versions.

Thanks for the ideas. As I have Photoshop, I followed potet's suggestion, after which Lulu has now accepted the book-cover upload. Next, with fingers crossed, I will order a proof copy.

Thank you all for your suggestions. The proof copy arrived a couple of days ago and I am pleased to say the book looks the same as before. There were a couple of minor differences, although probably due to the printers. The background colour of the front cover is a slightly different shade than before. Also, the photos in the book's interior are noticeably sharper than previously.
All in all, a good result.
The next step is that I want to republish the book with an ISBN. It is a great shame that Lulu retired their old cover-design wizard as I used it to create eighteen different titles since 2012. Seventeen already have ISBNs, but this one (publ. 2012) doesn't. So, I foresee some annoying fiddling around in order to get an ISBN onto the back cover without mucking up the text box.

As regards color photos illustrating my books, I convert them into GRAYSCALE in IMAGE > MODE of Photoshop. Then I enhance their contrast, generally with ENHANCE > ADJUST LIGHTING > SHADOWS/HIGHLIGHTS. I use the same tools if the original is in sepia/B&W, but too pale.

If I recall correctly, you can retro add an ISBN via Revise. Don't forget to also edit your Copyright page to include the ISBN.

If creating, editing, or otherwise adjusting images on a PC, don't forget that the settings on your monitor may not represent what they actually look like in print. If you have a deskjet at home then test print an image until it looks how you want it to look, then adjust the monitor settings to match. (Default settings on your printer should be maintained.)
