English
Plurals are very hard in our tongue, Take a simple noun like box. We add an e s to the noun And box becomes boxes--no shocks.
But then we get ox which should be oxes When we're talking of more than one. But ox becomes oxen and fools us all, So why doesn't fox become foxen?
And what about goose the plural is geese, Yet the plural of moose there is none, Just like sheep, but not a keep. So for many that just is not fun.
Man becomes men, so pan should be pen, But that's certainly not the case And what about tooth, that becomes teeth, So booth should be beeth in its place.
And when we have more than one mouse in our house, We have mice running round our houses. But surely it's hice not houses we own And the mouses to aggravate spouses.
These mismatches are so easy for us For strangers they are an ordeal Yes English is hard for others to learn But for us, English is ideal. Elizabeth Keimach

Blame very early printers and typesetters. But I often call sheep, sheeps, because it amuses me.
