I make my covers myself with Photoshop, using the Lulu template. I leave the light-blue borders as they are because they are there for the Lulu printer to position the PDF before they cut them off. If I do not fill the borders with the same colour as that of the cover background, quite often some of the ligh-blue border remains, for instance as in the picture below where it can be seen at the top of the front page.

I also create a border, but not that big because not a lot is trimmed off. But I do it because it makes it easier, in the Cover Wizard, to match the spine colour to it, and often the back. At least in the old, and not as old, Cover Wizards. I have not used the new one. www.lulu.com/search?contributor=Kevin+Lomas&page=1&pageSize=10&adult_audience_rating=00 (I wonder why Lulu got rid of the Previews? I know they used Flash, which has become outmoded, but they could have left existing ones there. Mutter.) Interestingly enough, some sites to do with book cover design say a border is a sign of a poor and amateur design. But many mass-produced books by major publishers have them!

Oh, some of the borders are white, and you cannot see those!

For the new draft, I filled the margins with the picture background colour. I received the copy this morning (2022-11-19). The result is perfect.

Yes that's OK, but the purple box is not central to the cover. Needs moving to the right a bit.

Yes that's OK, but the purple box is not central to the cover. Needs moving to the right a bit. You are right. This is very easy to correct for the next draft.
