Greetings!
It's been a while....a long while, but I see that the book layout templates are not like they were. One page! Honestly. not much of a template. Does anyone happen to have the original templates Lulu used to use before the renewed (not loved) remodel. If do please send a link as to where it may be hiding or if you have it somewhere in the archives of your pc. Looking for 8.5 x 11.
Thank you so much
MCB

I found them pretty useless to be honest, a bit basic. I made my own, like so many users do. That's the best way to understand how they function, which is always an asset.

Mark: I found the old files for the MSWord US trade 6X9 format books, but not the 8.5x11. I don't seem to have a zip utility on this resurrected machine but I suppose I could e-mail them individually to you if you think they might do what you need. Shoot me a PM. Like Kevin though, I have found that the "fill-in-the-blank" templates have become more of a bother than a help. For my current projects I find it easier now to just wing it on the fly.

Templates for books can be very complex. I learned to create them via trial and error, adding a new aspect now and again. In Word pages self-generate as the text runs out of space. But you can also force them using Page Breaks, New Section, and other commands added to pages. It's not usual to have page numbers or Headers and Footers until the main text appears. I write SF and F, so that would be the page on which the story starts. So there is where a Header or Footer is added, or both. Page numbers go into those, top or bottom, which can be Right, Left or Central, and in a different font of a different size if wanted. I also have my name on one side and the book title on the other. They are not automatically placed as new pages are added unless commanded to do so by one of the settings, which can be defaulted. Often the first page I have is a title page with a Page Break. Followed by the Copyright page, followed by a Page Break. Prefaces etc., can follow those. Each with a Page Break at their ends. They have no numbers, Headers or Footers, but some do number them using Roman numerals. New Section will follow those. Not to mention every page needs margins and a Gutter. Pages set to Left and Right. Headers and Footers will move the top and bottom margins, and they may need to be adjusted to look right and for good spacing. Page count for POD often also has to be divisible by four, so that needs to be allowed for. And hardbacks need empty pages front and back. So as I said. Even Lulu's early Word Templates were too basic to be of use! This is useful though digital.imprint.co.uk/formatting-book-microsoft-word/
