I thought it was possible for a revised version of a title with an ISBN. It isn't.
The other day, I opened a copy of an illustrated book I published a couple of years ago. I wished I had opted for 80g white paper instead of 60g cream paper when I created it because the rendering of the pictures was not satisfactory.
I don't feel like doing another edition with another ISBN. I made a new version with gray-scaled, contrast-enhanced photos. In vain, Lulu did not allow me to shift to white paper. So the new edition will be on cream paper.

ISBNs cover many details, but I bet paper grade is not one of them ...

Indeed, I should have been given permission to have the revised edition printed on white paper.

This seems to be about all it includes en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISBN#/media/File:ISBN_Details.svg Not a lot really. But enough, I expect, to allow someone to order the exact book they want. Lulu is just trying to squeeze more money out of you. From what I recall the creation of a book at Lulu makes two PDF files. The pages and the cover. Those two files are given a code to link them and that is what the printers use. Nothing to do with an ISBN.
