I've been selling ebooks for years on Lulu without any issue, but most recently I've been seeing multiple purchases of the same product on my sales info, and I'm receiving income for each of these purchases. I knew something was off when two purchases of an ebook were showing up at the same time from the same country, and just to be sure I downloaded the Sales Report and the reference number for these multiple entries was the same. This has got me worried because this has been repeating itself pretty frequently, within two weeks I've had four customers doing these duplicate purchases. To be sure that this wasnt because of the website's interface, I bought one of my own ebooks and everything went as per normal, so now I'm left wondering on what could've caused this for different people from different countries. I don't have access to these customers' contact info so I turn to this forum for answers, does anyone here have a similar experience and knowledge on what causes this?

Hello Ana, It could be downloads to different devices, or preview download then full book purchase. If you received income for all ebooks then it just happened that the book was purchased twice. Perhaps the person bought one for her, one for her daughter.

Hello Ana, It could be downloads to different devices, or preview download then full book purchase. If you received income for all ebooks then it just happened that the book was purchased twice. Perhaps the person bought one for her, one for her daughter. Thanks Maggie, I wish I had only income for one of the duplicate purchases because that would've solved the problem easily. Unfortunately for all 4 of these customers, I'm getting duplicate incomes for all transactions, and one ebook was even purchased four times. I should stress that it's an ebook since unlike physical books it really makes no sense to purchase more than one copy in electronic format. Also, my ebooks are adult content to a male audience only, and knowing my genre I highly doubt that my viewers would want to buy copies of others since this is something that we generally keep private.

Adult lit! Congratulations, Ana. I don't see why this should be commented on unless you've decided that what Lulu is ok with is somehow not ok on this board.

It's a curious thing for sure. Perhaps it's a glitch either on the part of Amazon or Lulu. It has happened to me, unfortunately.

Thanks again, can I ask what happened after the glitch - did you receive double the income (assuming that it genuinely registered in your sales report as two or more purchases by the same customer, with profits for each purchase), or did Lulu correct the error and send you the correct amount?

The glitch was at another ebook distributor. It showed I had earned a huge amount. It was an Amazon reporting error. It was corrected and I never received the money. Just be patient. It'll work itself out. By the way, of all the PODs I think Lulu has the best distribution. Ingram Spark is good too, but Lulu is simpler, free ISBNs, etc etc.

Ingram Spark has free ISBNs for US customers. The problem [apart from it being for US customers] would be Ingram Spark will be listed as publisher for its free ISBN just like Lulu Press is listed as publisher for its free ISBN.

Nowadays can you say a book is for males only? It's up to the reader what they read, perhaps it always has been. There's seems to be a lot of indecision now to what sex a person is, It seems they can make their own mind up what they are. Until I am able to give birth I will always assume I am male.

The World Health Organisation summarises the difference between sex and gender in the following way: Sex refers to “the different biological and physiological characteristics of males and females, such as reproductive organs, chromosomes, hormones, etc.”
Gender refers to "the socially constructed characteristics of women and men – such as norms, roles and relationships of and between groups of women and men. It varies from society to society and can be changed. The concept of gender includes five important elements: relational, hierarchical, historical, contextual and institutional. While most people are born either male or female, they are taught appropriate norms and behaviours – including how they should interact with others of the same or opposite sex within households, communities and work places. When individuals or groups do not “fit” established gender norms they often face stigma, discriminatory practices or social exclusion – all of which adversely affect health.”
******************************************************
Physical sex isn't quite as clear cut as reproductive organs, chromosomes, hormones and so on. Saying 46 XY is male and 46 XX is female sounds nice, but it's not particularly realistic. There are a number of intersex conditions resulting in ~17 intersex births in 1,000 [roughly the same as the number of redheads born per 1,000].
Life tends to be messier than many people expect.

Adult lit! Congratulations, Ana. I don't see why this should be commented on unless you've decided that what Lulu is ok with is somehow not ok on this board. What a bizarre reply! I have myself recently published an adult, picaresque novel in French, utopic, philosophical and bisexually pornographic. I hope someone some day will congratulate me for it.

It's a fair assumption that you were judging the adult lit genre. She didn't know you had published erotica yourself.

Call me old school, but if you have male reproductive organs you are a male. If you have female reproductive organs, you are a female. Traditionally that is what sex and gender you are, regardless of what people may think they are. All the newish categorisations are just being PC. Personally I think I am a beetroot.
Physical sex isn't quite as clear cut as reproductive organs, chromosomes, hormones and so on.
