Until recently, I had been using PDF995 to make PDFs and read them. To me it was a flawless program.
A couple of weeks ago, I received a sort of peremptory info telling me that from now on all my PDFs had to be read through acrobat.
I made a PDF of my sitcom Spiffies and Loonies, and it was displayed in the Acrobat screen. I did not find it as good as that of PDF995 ... at least I was used to PDF995, and had problems finding my way around Acrobat.
Today (2023-09-11), after a revision of this sitcom, I made a PDF of my WordPerfect file with PDF995, and wanted to view the PDF in the PDF995 window, but couldn't because only the Acrobat one opened.
I removed the Acrobat file and re-installed PDF995, just in case. Microsoft diplayed a message that now all PDFs were read by Microsoft Edge. I clicked on _ouvrir avec Microsof Edge_ "Open with Microsoft Edge", but nothing happened.
I tried another PDF program which I had never used so far - PDF PRO. I made a PDF of the sitcom with it, and there again, I was prompted to open it with Microsoft Edge ... to no avail.
WordPerfect, my wordprocessor, has a PDF facility. Same story. A PDF made with it can only be read with Microsoft Edge, and nothing happens after clicking on the latter's button.
I am at my wits' end. I guess I'll have to reinstall Acrobat.

I have just re-installed Adobe Acrobat Reader (7-day trial). For the moment, I can only display one page at a time. There must be a way to display 4 pages together. I viewed both my PDF995 file and my WPF file. The WPF PDF file does not allow modifications through Acrobat, which is a good thing.

Until recently, I had been using PDF995 to make PDFs and read them. To me it was a flawless program. I am surprised Adobe allow third party PDF creating software.A couple of weeks ago, I received a sort of peremptory info telling me that from now on all my PDFs had to be read through acrobat. That's unusual because Adobe's PDF Reader is normally pre-installed on most devices and has been for decades. That is normally what opens PDFs to read them. Just to read them, though. But there is a link in it to an editor that you are charged per use for using.I made a PDF of my sitcom Spiffies and Loonies, and it was displayed in the Acrobat screen. I did not find it as good as that of PDF995 ... at least I was used to PDF995, and had problems finding my way around Acrobat. For reading or editing? If just for reading then the PDF Reader is just like an an ebook.Today (2023-09-11), after a revision of this sitcom, I made a PDF of my WordPerfect file with PDF995, and wanted to view the PDF in the PDF995 window, but couldn't because only the Acrobat one opened. If you look for and find the file in a folder (assuming you are using a PC) right click on it and there are options what to do with it, and one of those options is what to open it with, once or always. What will open it will be listed, as long as it is also on your PC.I removed the Acrobat file and re-installed PDF995, just in case. Microsoft diplayed a message that now all PDFs were read by Microsoft Edge. I clicked on _ouvrir avec Microsof Edge_ "Open with Microsoft Edge", but nothing happened. Indeed, there does seem to be a default PDF reader now built in to Edge. That's mainly there to open PDFs you click on on line. It should not be the default one.I tried another PDF program which I had never used so far - PDF PRO. I often wonder if some modern apps expect that users only work on line.I am at my wits' end. I guess I'll have to reinstall Acrobat.

I viewed both my PDF995 file and my WPF file. The WPF PDF file does not allow modifications through Acrobat, which is a good thing. That's a puzzle. 7-day trial? But that's not just the reader, that's also the editing tool. Often trials are limited. They use the PC's clock/calendar to know when the trial is over, and some people turn them off, so they can get a full version free 7 day trial free forever, so free trials often have limited functions until you buy a key to unlock it all.
When I click on a PDF on my PC is does indeed default to Edge, but I can change that so it opens in Adobe Reader Touch, whatever that is. I don't edit PDFs. I just get Word to Save As a PDF. Word will not open them, but still having it as a Word file I just edit that, then Save As PDF over the existing PDF file.
But there's this >> www.pdf-format.com/web/en/dj/ not that I have used it.

Before the change, I had Adobe Acrobat Reader, but it did not interfere with PDF995. To see a file made with PDF995, I just clicked on its name, and it opened under Microsoft Edge.
Since the change, even more so since I reinstalled the new version of Adobe Acrobat Reader, it is no longer possible to read a PDF995 file with Microsoft Edge. It is only possible with Adobe Acrobat Reader, but it is not so good as Microsoft Edge, because I cannot display two pages side by side, and I cannot have a robot read my text.

Robots can be a bit bitchy. I spray mine with WD40.
