I'm curious to find out if this is just something that I experienced or if others saw it, too. At the beginning of the week, Lulu informed me (as an author) that they were going to have a Black Friday sale and that I could take advantage of the 30% off discount early, before the sale was offered to the general public. Since Christmas is coming and I wanted to give some of the books I have in my account as gifts, I was eager to take advantaged of the discount. Which was great, don't get me wrong.
However, on my personal blog, I also mentioned the upcoming sale to my readers, informing them to take advantage of it if there were any books in either my shop or anywhere else on Lulu they'd like for Christmas. But, yesterday, I saw no mention of a Black Friday sale anywhere on the site. Not even when I tried putting books in my cart as a "regular visitor", did I see any signs of a discount to use in my shopping cart. So, I felt a little silly mentioning it on my blog, when there was actually nothing.
Was it just me, or did Lulu decide on not having a general audience sale yesterday?

Places that have Black Friday sales often do it to clear excess stock, or they buy in stock specifically to sell cheap. But often they are just their normal discounts labelled Black Friday. Lulu, being a POD operation don't have any stock, but they do offer services, cheaper printing costs or whatever, and it's those they often discount. I have just looked at their site and also cannot find any discounts at all.

Thanks, And Kevin 2024 for confirming this. I went back to check the email I received from them and sure enough, it did say the discount was going to be made available to everyone on the 24th... just nothing seemed to happen. Very strange. I guess I'm glad I ordered my books when I did.

Ah! Okay, thank you, BlueAndGold for shedding some more light on this. I didn't realize that it was an email offer. I thought it would just appear on the website. Making more sense, now.

I used the TWINKLE30 rebate yesterday and today for three different orders - one for me, and two for other people. It will continue to be available until Nov. 29.

Thirty percent off is tough to let pass by! I spent a little bit more than I should have, but the books will be enjoyed.

When I used to buy Proofs from Lulu, I noticed I always got a discount email, after I had bought them!

And apparently they offered the 30% off discount for several days after the actual "Black Friday" too.

I always find it interesting that Lulu (and other places) increase prices, and yet can still offer large discounts at times. There is a UK site (it may work for other countries also, I am not sure) that records prices, but I think only of large retailers. It's often the case that goods have been offered at a cheaper price during the year than even their 'sales' prices. Some places even seem to have a yo-yo price policy, and don't even class it as a 'sale'. They are just marked %X off and it may only be for a few days. But not often on the day you want the item! This is a similar site pricespy.co.uk/ it has options for other countries. There's a few sites that only check the price history of items on Amazon. The bottom line is, sales are not always what they seem.
