Hello Folks,
I"m updating a book that I published on Lulu years ago. I'd like to change the paper type from white to cream. This option is unavailable. For a possible workaround I'm thinking of retiring this project & creating the same one using cream paper. Is this the proper fix for this? And if so can I keep the same ISBN. The current book is only sold through Lulu Bookstore, not global distribution, & the new project would be the same.
All constructive feedback is appreciated.
thank you,

I believe that the cream color paper is only available in 60# un-coated and for black and white standard printing. I just tried it and I could change from white to cream 60# paper, but it had to be black and white standard printing. I don't know if the age of your publication has any bearing on your choices today. If you have selected black and white standard printing and still can't change to cream paper, I would open a help ticket with Lulu and ask them what is preventing you from making this change.

Plus, if you have any pictures in it the white will show as cream, because white does not print. ISBNs can only be used once. I don't think it makes any difference if you retire it or not. May I ask why you applied an ISBN if you did not use Global?

Hi And Kevin 2024, I appreciate the response. It was originally global distro then I removed it so it is now only sold on the LuLu storefront. Some claim that books with cream paper are easier on the eyes than white paper. Other books I published on LuLu have cream paper. So, I wanted to keep things consistent. thank you

If the ISBN is provided by Lulu Press, you can't reuse it.
If the ISBN is one you own, you can reuse it with the caveat the book remains in the same format, i.e.: ebook remains ebook, 6x9 remains 6x9, and so on. Different covers for different markets would tend to use different ISBNs.

After all, it is an ISBN you own.
Lulu Press can expect whatever it wants, and Self Publishers are free to take their business elsewhere.
