As a Christmas present, I made Lulu send the bilingual version (Mirrored in French) of my situational comedy (Spiffies and Loonies) to [REDACTED], the caretaker (la concierge). Unfortunately, when I placed the order, I didn't realize I entered her colleague's telephone number instead of hers. Her colleague lives in another suburb of Paris so today when the postman in charge of parcels rang her up, she answered she wasn't expecting a parcel, that she wasn't [PERSON and ADDRESS] .... She is not a very bright person since she didn't think of giving the postman [PERSON's] phone number. This was an opportunity for me to realize that once the telephone number is entered and the order accepted, there is no way to change it with Lulu. Ditto with the French postal service. You can ask for delivery at another date, but you cannot enter the right phone number.
The postman always comes again the day after with the parcel. So I hope the caretaker will catch his coming in, and tell him she is the addressee.

When I ship parcels through Canada Post they always ask for the phone number of the recipient. I usually don't have that information, so I just put my own in it's place. This way, if the post office ever calls about a delivery (which they have never done yet), they get me and then I can inform them what to do with the parcel if there's a problem.

The postman had to deliver me a parcel this afternoon, I took the opportunity to explain him my mistake with the caretaker's phone number and gave him the right one. He had two parcels for her, he called her and was happy to have her at the end of the line. I suppose if the addresse doesn't answer his call, he presumes they are absent so he takes the parcel back to the post-office, even when he exactly knows where they are located.

I have never known a sender to be asked for a phone number. Theirs or the recipient's. What use would the former be? and as JP says, how would you know the recipient's number, if you don't know them? When a person orders something, then they are often asked for their number, so they can be texted to say when it may arrive. (Any time between 8am and 10 pm ...) The UK's GPO don't bother with such things. They never let you know when they are bringing a parcel, and if an item will not fit through the letterbox, or it needs signing for, and you are not in, they try to leave it with a neighbour, sticking a card through your letterbox to say where it is. Failing that, they take it back to the sorting office and stick a card through to say when you can pick it up.

At least it sound like you got it all straightened out, which is the important thing.
