There are also YouTube tutorials on using Word.
A quick query on your version of Word should help you find resources for your particular version.

I have been using WordPerfect since its creation. WP is the best wordprocessor for a writer.

Retread, thanks for the great information, it gives direction for making a list of documents. Do i need to have it in a folder type manuscript, or does it accept the list of files as a manuscript?

A manuscript is, in this case, the text you plan to publish.
You can do an internet search for instruction on what you need to do in Word, and the specific version of Word you use since they're all a bit different. Some things will be the same, while others won't.
I use Word 97, Mr Lomas uses Word 2010, while others may use a different version of Word. All told you have 95, 97, 2000, XP, 2003, 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016, 2021, and 365.

It's been on line only for a while now. Monthly subscription I think.

My version has a lot of help built in, I assume they all have. Thankfully the intrusive paperclip personage was removed quite some time ago, because it was hated!

I've been using Word for nigh on 20+ years. Currently using Word 365. There are templates in Word and there's also a help menu. Alternatively you can Google what your trying to do. For example you can enter "how do I format a manuscript in Word". Just make sure you specify which version of Word you're using (e.g. 2007, 2010, 365, etc.).
FYI, there is a manuscript template in Word. When you open a new file....
1. Click On File (in top menu) 2. Several templates will now be displayed 3. Click on "More Templates" on the far right of the menu 4. In the box where it says "Search for online templates", type in "manuscript" and hit Enter. 5. A manuscript template will now be displayed. 6. Click on the manuscript image. 7. A new dialogue box opens. Click on "Create". 8. The template will now open in Word and is ready to use.
Hope that helps you out.

Alternatively another program you could use is Microsoft Publisher. Works very much like using Word.

A manuscript is a bit 'old school'. Often typed, printed or in days of yore, hand written, usually on A4. Fine for sending to a publisher, because they will do all the layout. But it's not much use for DIAY self-publishing via such as Lulu. Their Wizard tools are expecting page sizes that match the book size chosen (and of the page count allowable). And normally the pages need to look exactly as you see within a mass-produced book. Lulu's tools will not do that for you, and page layout is actually quite complex. An option Word did use to have, which was handy for those new to it, was the Show Me option. Tell it what you want and it did show you, as it actually did it. It was sort of animated through the steps.
