Hello,
I began the process of publishing a book on Lulu and got their free ISBN, but my partner and I recently decided to switch to KDP. Will I need to get a new ISBN number through KDP? Or can I keep the same ISBN number I got through lulu?
thanks!

Hello, I began the process of publishing a book on Lulu and got their free ISBN, but my partner and I recently decided to switch to KDP. Will I need to get a new ISBN number through KDP? Or can I keep the same ISBN number I got through lulu? thanks! The free ISBN from Lulu Press belongs to Lulu Press. If you distribute to KDP / Amazon [among others] through Lulu Press, you can use the Lulu Press ISBN.
If you distribute on KDP / Amazon directly [bypassing Lulu Press] you need a different ISBN, which you can get through KDP.
If you want to control your book's distribution, buy your own ISBN, put the book on Amazon without further distribution, then go through IngramSpark [letting IS know what you've done on Amazon], and do further distribution with your ISBN through IS.
The thing to remember is using a Lulu Press ISBN means Lulu Press is the publisher of record, and similarly a KDP / Amazon ISBN means KDP / Amazon is the publisher of record. IngramSpark offers a free ISBN at times as well, with the caveat IngramSpark is the publisher of record. This is important to know because some readers get very picky about books with a Lulu Press or KDP / Amazon ISBN because they think all Self-Published books are crap due to poor spelling / grammar / editing and so on.

And unfortunately, they often are :-(
