I'll have the spouse hug him for you, since he tolerates her because of boobs.
This is interesting, Cameron! For a very long time the breasts of the mother were very important to our boy. First for the good-night milk. Later on just to touch them before sleeping. At least until three. When it comes to hugging and sitting on the lap, there is a clear hierarchy: 1. grandmother 2. mother 3. father

All three of our kids were breast-fed as long as possible, which while they may have wanted to be fed that way longer it isn't always possible for someone in uniform [the spouse] to do so.
Our dotters will hug us when they get up and when they go to bed. Our son, usually refuses such 'weakness' [in his opinion]. Let him scrape a knee and he wants his Mama.
Lap sitting, early morning for the girls, our son leans against us when he wants something, most often leaning against his mother.
My parents are dead, his maternal grandparents he's never met [due to their choices].

My dad gave me one dollar bill ‘Cause I’m his smartest son, And I swapped it for two shiny quarters ‘Cause two is more than one!
And then I took the quarters And traded them to Lou For three dimes — I guess he didn’t know That three is more than two!
Just then, along came old blind Bates And just ’cause he can’t see He gave me four nickels for my three dimes, And four is more than three!
And then I took the nickels to Hiram Coombs Down at the seed-feed store, And the fool gave me five pennies for them, And five is more than four!
And then I went and showed my dad, And he got red in the cheeks And closed his eyes and shook his head — Too proud of me to speak!

Interesting to hear all this ‘grandparent speak’, we’re fortunate to also have two great grandchildren. Mya who is eight, going on 18, and young Jack now four who was born with Cornelia de Lange syndrome. Both are great joys to parents, grandparents and great grandparents.

I'm 83 years old and my only grandchild is almost 12 years old, so the chances of a great grandchild are slim. Do your great grandchildren live near you in Spain?

My dad gave me one dollar bill
You will laugh, but this happened in our family 70 years ago: My father and his one year younger sister had to help in the household and then each received a coin: 20 centimes for the boy; 50 centimes for the girl (as she helped more).
In Switzerland, the diameter of the coins increases as their value increases, but the fifty-centime piece is considered 1/2 franc and, as the smallest in the franc series, is correspondingly smaller than the twenty-centime piece, the largest in the centime series. My father suggested to his little sister to exchange his little coin for her big one. This went well until the little sister proudly told her mother. (1 and 2 centimes are not in the picture (from wikipedia), as they were abolished 1978 (2cts) and 2006 when the production costs jumped from 4cts to 11cts for the 1cts coin)

I often wonder where some of the other originals are these days: Brett, the rather angry writer and musician; Carol, who wrote the book about running away to be a clown; some fella who wrote both Victorian detective novels and was an expert on Orchids -- last heard of in Central America; Gopal, the rather brilliant poet; Henry, one of the early bosses, second to Bob at one point I think. I did keep in touch with Angela and Stef Hooper for a while, but when what brought you together in the first place, goes, then, it can become a little awkward and we drifted again. Then of course there was Gene, who was an early service provider, quite handy with templates. I know one other person from that time, but he wouldn't thank me for mentioning him as he gave himself a new handle and he's around on this forum. Finally, I wonder if our celebriy author, the Crusher kid from the later Star Trek kept his book listed here?
