Perhaps we did not know any better back then, but as I have said to you before, Europe was once covered with trees and most were chopped down to build things with, farm the land, or just as fuel. Many in the UK were chopped down to build a navy. (But our Forestry Commission plant 10,000s a year and are one of the UK's biggest land owners.) I get your point, but it is a hypocritical philosophy to try to stop other countries from what we have done ourselves, which is, trying to earn a living, often in the only way they can. Granted big business is involved, but it still brings in an income to those local people who have no other kind of income. The USA once said, for example, we cannot stop the growing of drugs in S. America unless we can offer them an alternative way of making money. BTW. Did you know that trees also create Greenhouse gasses? PS: once we have managed to kill ourselves off, nature will rapidly recover.
