Hi, no joy with Dopdf, it is not compatible with Windows XP. Don't know how to attach a Word doc to here... Okay, XP may be part of the issue, since you can run all of Office 97 on Ubuntu 16.04, which is how I'm doing it.
The converter will print a PDF using the doc settings, so if you haven't embedded the font you're using in Word 97, then do it before you convert.
As for attaching a file like that you'd have to register as a site user, which would also allow you to PM Maggie and get her email address.
*** Edit ***
Looks like for a 32 bit system you'd have to go with Ubuntu 16.04 or lower, though 16.04 works pretty well.
Ok, thanks for the tip. I'll give smallpdf.com a go.

Just tried it. Same problem again. It is saving as 6 x 9, but when I try to upload the pdf to Lulu I get an error message saying not all the fonts are embedded in the pdf. In the original Word file, under Options, Save, I tick the box that says Embed true type fonts (been doing that for years, no problem when you could upload a Word file straight to Lulu), so I'm not sure why that's not converting to the pdf properly. As another test run, I created another Word file as A5, embedded the fonts, and saved it to pdf using Cute Pdf writer. When I got to the "print" stage, I made sure the paper size for the pdf was marked as A5. In this case, it saved to the correct A5 size as a pdf, and when uploading it to the Design stage on Lulu, I don't get the error message, it says the fonts are embedded, and it goes through as A5. Only issue after that is of course the cover design section on Lulu is not working at all, but that's something else :/

Ok, thanks for the tip. I'll give smallpdf.com a go. On Ubuntu 16.04, if you can burn a DVD you can use the OS from the disk or use it to turn your computer into a dual-boot, as in you can keep XP but also have a newer OS that doesn't break easily.
You can also install WINE or WINE Tricks in order to install and use all but the Access part of Office 97. You can also download and install just about all the MS Fonts that were released around the time of Office 97.
My old 32 bit box has XP and Ubuntu 16.04 on it, which I keep because I have Distiller on my old XP install, just in case.

Go into Properties as winteriscoming suggested (DoPDF) and change the size to 6x9. Otherwise attach doc tmr and I'll look at the file for you and give you your PDF. You can then delete the attachments and I will do the same. I will also tell you how I did it. Hi, no joy with Dopdf, it is not compatible with Windows XP. Don't know how to attach a Word doc to here... Download a trial version of Adobe Pro and in Properties make sure 6x9 is your size. Free for one month.

Most PDF converters installs require the page size to be set in the properties, I think I had to set it in two different places in Distiller to prevent it from defaulting to 8.5x11 inches.
Small PDF uses the docs settings, so if Richard uses it and it still comes out at 8.5x11 then there's at least one page in his doc that is set at 8.5x11.

No, it is coming out ok as 6 x 9 using small pdf converter. All the pages in my doc are 6 x 9. That's not the problem with the online converter. The problem is when I then upload a pdf from that to Lulu, I get an error message saying not all the fonts are embedded. I always embed true type fonts in Word under Options and Save. When I use Cute pdf writer, installed on my laptop, I can upload successfully to Lulu as regards the fonts being embedded, but using Cute pdf writer, a 6 x 9 Word doc comes out in the pdf as 8.5 x 11. This happens even if I use the postscript size option when I print the pdf using Cute pdf writer. So I have the page size issue with Cute pdf, but not the font issue. With the online pdf converters I have used, I don't have the page size issue, but do have the problem where fonts are not embedded (I should note here I only ever use one type of font in my book interior).

At present I suspect uploading to Lulu Press is going to be problematic with all the files being migrated.

Sure, I thought the same thing about the fonts. For some reason I get that error message on Lulu, perhaps the problem is with them. As I mentioned before, these are test runs. I have published numerous books through Lulu before, uploading directly from Word, and no problem with embedded fonts, ever. I'm leaving my existing previously published projects alone on there while this is going on, as I'm sure others are doing. Though my most recent book requires a minor interior text revision, which is where I ran into these difficulties.

I think it's likely the new system on their end, though I was uploading PDFs on the old one without issues. The only time I had an issue was one Word doc converted that had one text box for a page number on one page with the text box calling for Times New Roman, without an actual character in it. I've been using a different font for a long time.
On the revision I'd say wait. If your Lulu Press account is as screwed up as mine is [and I don't have much there] then it's better to wait until they have the kinks worked out.

Lulu Facebook page just shutdown....Good or bad news? I'd say it isn't good. When a business doing the vast majority of its outreach on social media like FacePain shuts down that outreach, it tends to indicate the business doesn't have any good news to offer and is trying to prevent end-users from complaining in a venue where complaints will be noticed.

I've been using Lulu for years (7 different technical book projects, several hundred sales), and while the old website was somewhat 'clunky' this was largely an aesthetic limitation, not a functional one. The new Lulu website is the opposite - looks more polished, but is broken in more ways than I can count (and I do math for a living).
Seriously -- almost everything is broken -- exisiting book cover images - gone. Old retired projects - mysteriously ressurected, with no way to delete them. Current proects duplicated, with different prices. Various prompts appearing in what appear to be random languages on occasion (I got Ukranian this morning). No chance in seeing any records of past sales.
The new Lulu website is absolutely attrocious. Enough so, that I'm going to have a long look at Bookbaby for my needs. Lulu has about a week of my time to get things right (hell, they should just return to the old website). Otherwise, I'm gone. Maybe the portents of Lulu tanking are all there...and this is just another indication of same.
p.s. whoever was contracted to do the design of the new website should be terminated, along with the quality control folks who should have tested the system before it got released.
