So the only way in which a copyright holder can "own" the ISBN to their book is if they bought the number themselves and identified themselves as the publisher. If someone else were to publish the book, it would be assigned a new number. This does not mean that one book cannot have multiple ISBNs...it would just have to have one for each different publisher. An author might license their book to half a dozen different publishers simultaneously. Each would have a unique ISBN all the while the copyright is retained by the author. I'm sure glad I bought my own ISBNs, which means Lulu is only my distributor and printer, and I'm my own publisher. That was certainly worth the registration fee and $8 per ISBN! Hopefully, though, Lulu will get its act together and sort this mess out.

You are very lucky, all my books have Lulu ISBN numbers and so both the printed and eBooks will disappear if Lulu goes down. To be honest I hadn't realsed that you could purchase ISBN numbers so inexpensively, but how much was the registration fee? I too hope Lulu will get it right and sort everything out. I really liked the old Lulu.

Here are the costs for an ISBN in the UK (you will have to scroll down some distance)... blog.reedsy.com/how-to-get-an-isbn/

Thank you Ron, I've made a note of the blog. By the way I'm really enjoying your novel, "A company of Heroes, Book 1". You describe your fantasy country as cleverly as you paint your pictures. I think the book so far is excellent. This is only my second fantasy novel, my first was "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe," which I read many years ago. When I've finished reading your book I'll write a review in the different venues where you can buy it. Well done Ron!

So to get this clear, if I decide to move to Ingram Spark instead of Lulu (or Lulu goes under amidst the chaos) I need to buy my own ISBNs, as Ingram do not offer them for free.
Ingram Spark seem to offer quite a professional service.
Has anybody self-published through them before. How do they compare with Lulu in terms of quality of print, speed of delivery, price per book, etc?

Even after giving the.55% discount to bookstores, the book is still priced lower. One day to reach Amazon. They are the top of the food chain, so quality is better than everywhere. Free setup. INGRAMSPARK2020 coupon code.

They are the top in everything except reporting. They send reports for sales per outlet, per currency instead of showing all at once on screen. You can only search sales per currency. Annoying, but whatever. Also 90 delay in paying, but again, whatever. Only one return in two years. I selected Destroy, so I had nothing to pay.

Is that a ninety days delay in payment, so three months?

Is that a ninety days delay in payment, so three months? Yes, that's correct. It's done to ensure they don't pay you for any books that might be returned.

I really liked the old Lulu. $80 Oz dollars to register with the administration bureau (Thorpe Bowker), then $80 for ISBNs in blocks of ten - in Australia. Once I figured out the assignment process (for each epub and/or book format) it's all pretty easy.

Thank you aacain. However I just checked out my Lulu and there certainly has been some improvement. All my books with their covers are finally showing in my projects. I'm going to checkout Lulu more thoroughly later but things are looking better.
