Imagine, we've been asking for Services Offered for years, and here we are, with a services section. Nice.

Please note these are NOT services offered by Lulu nor can Lulu validate that services offered here will meet Lulu publishing standards.

Paul,
I feel certain it is fairly clear the services section were not validated, offered, or supported by Lulu Inc.
The reason I suggested including a spot for 'services' was to make it simpler for the individuals who were already working with indie authors to make their services available.

Maggie,
I personally found it a bit amusing that Paul would infer that your work or Ron Miller's might not meet Lulu Press publishing standards.

I've been thinking about it for 24 hours, it so disturbed and confused me. If Lulu newbies are expected to meet lulu publishing standards and self publish, as in do everything themselves, why would a professional not be able to do it?
I'm tempted to post 200 covers, all accepted by industry professionals. I'm controlling myself so as not to spam the boards.

It's OK, Maggie. I'm confident people understand that Paul was just posting boilerplate disclaimer language for the sake of Lulu. I'm sure he has to. Anyone who has seen your work knows the level of quality.

By the way, you should post your above description of Services Offered in the provided Services Offered Section at the far bottom of the main page. (Where I incorrectly posted my initial requests for cover feedback. My posts there should be moved up to the correct Workshops section by Admin or someone with Moderator powers.)

I know it's not Paul's fault. He's a lovely guy and has no choice. As for my services, I'm waiting a bit. First, to get this forum rolling, and second IS has a free upload coupon code till March 21st and I want to make the most of it. Don't ask what IS is please. Guess. I don't want to disrespect the boards.

Maggie,
I was in the corporate world until a bit over ten years ago. Eighteen years ago I passed on WO-2 [Warrant Officer 2]. Before that a stint of corporate and prior to that public service, and a host of other jobs.
I get the fact people [just like Paul] need to make a living. I also get the fact sometimes we do things we'd rather not.
Yet at some point each of us has to decide if what we're doing for a living still allows us to look ourselves in the eye via a mirror.
Are we helping or harming others? If not, it doesn't matter whether we cause harm [of whatever sort] by blindly following orders or simply because we fear looking for a better place of employ. We do what we find ethically acceptable or we find a job that does not force us to act against our conscience, or we devalue our sense of ethics often to eventually abandon said ethics.
Modern profit oriented corporations are modeled off sociopathic [at times psychopathic] behavioral models. We all have a choice regarding what we find acceptable.
I understand legalistic boilerplate, I don't have to like it or what prompts such ingenuous disclaimers.

I know, but easier said than done. We all have mortgages, and some have children, and so on. However if this place has Big Brother watching over it, and is micro-managed, with people popping in and disclaiming every word, or we feel that every word is watched and managed, it will fail.
Super sanitized places don't work; bulk works, messy works, opinionated imperfection works. No big brother. Seesh. I almost didn't want to post again. A sterile environment with controlled responses, who wants to read that? People want to read people interacting, helping, and so on. And I was so happy in my innocent silly post-- it crushed me. I'm not going to talk about it anymore, cause strangely, I'm still upset. I was just happy about something.

Believe it or not I grok what you're saying and I agree. I also know I've taken hits [more than I care to remember] because I chose my ethical framework rather than expediency.
My spouse and I have a mortgage, small children, and my spouse knows I will charge the gates of Hell with a bucket of water if that is what it takes to keep my House safe. My oldest dotter knows I will protect her and her sibling regardless of what it costs me, because while I may be obsolete I am still capable.
I encourage people to take a stand, not because I want them to fail, but because I want them to triumph over the limitations others would impose on them.
There is a place in this world for innocence, as there is a place for non-transactional interaction.
Let Big Brother watch, let Big Brother try to micro-manage and super-sanitize. Just be you and do what you need to and see what lasts.
There is nothing wrong with hope or innocence. There is also much to be said for happiness.
In case you haven't noticed, I tend to eschew controlled responses, Having been watched before I tend not to worry about it. The last Goliath I took on not only blinked, but winced before capitulating.

You should be my neighbour, Cameron. We'd get along.
Here's to turning a new page.

Maggie,
Unless you like spring-summer-fall temperatures over 100 F you might not like it here. I don't handle -16 to -20 F the way I used to.
To a new page: sláinte, kanpai, skoal, prosit, cheers, salud.
And remember, never accept terms before the opponent blinks and backs away.

Really?? I'm not sure I would mind that. Look up the weather for Montreal, Quebec today and cry. It took me half an hour to remove the ice off all my car windows. One inch thick.
You're in Texas? With the cowboy hats?
