Yesterday I tried to publish a book on Lulu and failed miserably. The old Lulu was so easy, but this revised Lulu is so frustrating. Every time I left Lulu and went back, I couldn't just pick up from where I'd left off, I had to start again and so it went on. I'll try again today, but frustratingly Lulu keeps telling me my illustrations won't print very well.(I believe I have the correct resolution) I never had these problems before. SIGH

Now I am pretty sure they are far from having finished the new set-up.

SIGH I was able to publish mine no problem. I did get the message that some graphics would not print well or something. But they are black and white symbols that I know printed in well in other books. Once you get to know the new creator, it's not that hard to use. If you leave or redo it will take you back to the beginning but any uploaded files should be in place.

That's good to hear winteriscoming, I wasn't able ti visit Lulu yesterday but I'll try again today. I have been with the company for years and made many books with them. I'd like to stay with Lulu.

I tried again today to publish my book, but still I was taken back to the beginning. Some things I had done were still there as I pressed "continue", but others had gone and I had to fill the form in again. I then reached "upload PDF file". I had made sure that my colour images were the correct resolution and My file was a PDF, then I uploaded it. I was still told my images were not within the resolution range. Anyway I decided to move on and got to the cover maker. I had always made my own covers using the old cover maker but Lulu has done away with this. Now one has to download a template wnd work on that ----a nightmare . I'll have a go on that tomorrow but it downloads as a PDF and is difficult to work with. Again I wish they had lept the old Lulu. SIGH

I got a message about the resolution of images: black and white should be 300 dpi and line drawings 600 dpi. But now I have both in one PDF. In which resolution should the PDF be?
The warning is automatically generated with reasonable guidelines. Even with the minimum resolution 200 dpi is reasonable. But what if I have an image with only 199 dpi?
Then it is up to me as a publisher to decide. Accordingly I can confirm that I read the warning. Then Lulu is sure that I will not complain later because of bad image quality; Lulu had warned me. It is in the nature of things that in such cases, there is more one warning too much than one too little.

Well I finally made a cover for my book, but the back page (which was the same background colour on my computer) is now lighter! I'll have to do the cover again. benziger my illustrations were all 300 dpi, so they should be OK, now if I can get the cover right I should be able to publish.

With the old system I'd get that warning on stuff that I had checked and knew was 300 DPI or higher.

Sometimes they detect an invisible text box, a line you drew using tools, a fleuron, or nothing.
