In the shameless book promotion section, Larika made a nice comment that made me look at her profile. So I discovered her hompage with lovely paintings. That remembered me a children's book in my grand mothers' house: A Winter Tale (preview, by the editor) by Ernst Kreidolf. It seems, that he was one of the first painter of "modern" picture books in Switzerland at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centenary. This information, I get some days ago, when I visited with the children the museum... (see below). For those beeing in Switzerland before mid March: There is a great exhibition in the Swiss National Museum at Schwyz (Forum für Schweizer Geschichte) about Swiss picture books until 1960: www.forumschwyz.ch/bilderbuecher (in German and French, unfortunately no publication).

The painting you have shared with us is so well drawn and very clever. I was travelling by train on the Continent in order to come back to England, however we were diverted to Switzerland. All I saw of the beautiful country that you live in, was the station. sigh!!
