I wanted to have the updated copy of a hard-bound private book printed. In so far as for the previous one the result was satisfactory, I followed the same steps. Unfortunately, this time it didn't work. The book that arrived today is a reprint of the 2020-01-13 obsolete edition, not that of the July 2020 edition!

That is so disappointing. I hope your enquiry is responded to quicker than mine. I received an email reply from Lulu yesterday, to an enquiry I made ages ago. You might want to try live chat you'll get an immediate response. help.lulu.com/s/contactsupport?language=en_US Lulu is based in North Carolina so don't forget to allow for the time difference.

JustKevin, even if you don't know French I suppose the French panel is a mirror of the English one.

Thanks a lot for your suggestion, Larika, but I shouldn't feel comfortable with the live-chat support. BTW it was closed down because it was jammed when I filed my complaint. About an hour later, I received an e-mail confirming my complaint was registered, and would be handled as soon as possible.

Hello again, Yesterday evening, I received an answer from Lulu to my query. The clerk in charge introduced herself as Carol. Here is the main passage: "Successfully completing a revision on August 8 would cause the version number to update to version 2. To do this, please upload the correct interior and cover file, then make sure to check each of the boxes on the Review step, affirming that you approve the appearance of the print-ready files, and other project specifications. Then click the 'Order a Copy of your Proof' button at the bottom of the page. This button is what publishes the revision. Finally, before proceeding with the order, make sure to confirm on the Projects page that the version number has updated to version 2." Today (2020-09-10), a moment ago, I uploaded the PDF of the latest version (2020-08-08), the one I want printed. Unfortunately the old issue remains at the end of the process. When I click on the button to check the contents of the file to be printed, nothing is displayed / nothing can be downloaded. I wrote Carol I won't approve of the book until I can check the contents of the machine-ready file processed by Lulu.

Then click the 'Order a Copy of your Proof' button at the bottom of the page. This button is what publishes the revision. Strange. I thought actually clicking an Approve button (once you have bought and seen the printed Proof) was what released it in to the wild, not simply buying a Proof. It otherwise makes the buying of a Proof pointless. That's also a strange phrase. "Copy of your Proof". The Proof is normally the first one you see in print, it's not a copy of a Proof. Finally, before proceeding with the order, make sure to confirm on the Projects page that the version number has updated to version 2." Should that not be automatic? Normally called Revision (x) I have never had to look before ordering a Proof. If that update does not happen then the Wizard is glitched.Today (2020-09-10), a moment ago, I uploaded the PDF of the latest version (2020-08-08), the one I want printed. You should not have to pay for a Proof just to see if Lulu's Wizards actually (still) work. In fact they can access your Project Wizard and check the dates on the uploads. They can also access all the files to see if that is what is actually turned in to Print Ready PDFs.

Unfortunately I cannot read French. I am sorry, And Kevin 2024, as French is written with Latin letters as English, you can read it. Maybe you cannot understand all the text, but a part, you should, as English is a mixture of old French (Norman, 1066!), old German (Saxon) and Latin: Réviser = Revise Caractéristiques = characteristics Je confirme = I confirm
Furthermore: Coûts d'impression will be something with the price, as it is followed by "EUR".

Maybe you cannot understand all the text, Gosh, that's remarkably pedantic, and I am sure you knew what I meant when I said I cannot read it. but a part, you should, as English is a mixture of old French (Norman, 1066!), old German (Saxon) and Latin: Réviser = Revise Caractéristiques = characteristics Je confirme = I confirm
Indeed, but those are the English words as spelled today (but I have no idea what je means). I said I cannot read French and that's true. I would assume that if that page is on Lulu it will also be in English.
Furthermore: Coûts d'impression will be something with the price, as it is followed by "EUR". Why does it not say prix?

Carol is quite a responsible person because she quickly answered my complaint that I couldn't view the inside of the machine-ready file processed by Lulu. She noticed I hadn't clicked on all the options necessary. I didn't have to do any of these for the printing of the obsolete version. So I followed her advice, and clicked on the necessary options concerning the quality of the paper and the definition of B&W pictures inside. So far so good. I expected the system to use the existing cover, as for the previous printing. There was no button to express this wish. So I downloaded the Lulu PDF template for the cover, and worked on it with Photoshop. I was able to paint the background in the blue of my choice, and insert the original picture in the front cover template. I didn't reproduce the original blurb on the backcover with my picture and a mini-bio because the template didn't have any frame for these. I left it blank. Once the cover PDF uploaded and accepted, I could immediately pre-view the cover and the inside of the book! The disappearance of the cover wizard is the hardest blow I have received so far. The new cover system is vastly inferior to the Lulu cover wizard I was used to. I now suspect the creator of the wizard left Lulu for whatever reason, and nobody else has been able emulate him or to do the same, because I just can't imagine any POD company abandoning such a great tool, and not creating a new version taking into account the constraints of the current technology.

Why does it not say prix?" "Coûts d'impression" means "printing costs". The price (prix) comprises the VAT.

Having edited/published numerous books for my local history society and also under my own name, I was a great fan of the Lulu cover wizard. It provided numerous templates and unlimited colour options. There were certain usability issues but, once one had grappled with them, every cover (front & back) in our particular books came out superbly.
