When I can afford to buy a block of ISBNs I'll set up print versions of my work elsewhere, because to be honest Lulu Press has cost me more money than I've made from utilizing their services.I think that is a very good idea Sphinx-Cameron. Ron gave me this interesting blog on ISBN numbers. blog.reedsy.com/how-to-get-an-isbn/

I have been with Lulu for years. I really liked the site but at the moment they are having problems. If you visit their site you are greeted with " Lulu has the right tools for authors, publishers, and businesses to fulfill all your book printing needs." I was very satisfied with the old lulu so I am prepared to see if it can get over its teething problems and get it right. It will require a great deal of patience but hopefully it will be worth it. are they still having issues uploading a file?

are they still having issues uploading a file? I made my file for my book "Let's be Kind" into a PDF and had no problems uploading it.

What on earth is going on?! Mr Lomas,
The circle&green check mark shows someone approved a post that was quarantined, as in to indicate it was not spam.

Ah OK. But what tags such posts as spam, that don't even look like spam? And what is the point of it if anyone can click Approve?

Ron gave me this interesting blog on ISBN numbers. blog.reedsy.com/how-to-get-an-isbn/ Hi all. Came across this forum today and decided to join. I've been using Lulu for at least 10 years. I'm a bit surprised to hear that you have to purchase ISBN numbers. I'm in Canada and ISBN numbers are free to acquire. As to the on-going issue of Lulu's site problems they continue. While many of the issues they had when they rolled out the bug filled new system, there seems to be new ones. I've noticed recently that when you try to upload your PDF for your book interior that their system is not accepting embedded fonts that they previously allowed. I continually get error messages saying my files include fonts that aren't embedded. I emailed support two or three days ago and have yet to have a response to my message. I've also noticed that if you use their pricing calculator to estimate the cost and cover size for your book that the cover dimensions your given at this point do not match what dimensions your cover should be when you're actually uploading your cover PDF when creating your book in the book creator. I'm really getting fed up with Lulu and close to the point where I'm thinking of taking my business elsewhere.

ISBNs costing of not is up to a particular polity's decision, they're not free in the US or UK but they are in Canada.
There are other places where you can Self Publish, depending upon your business model.

I'm really getting fed up with Lulu and close to the point where I'm thinking of taking my business elsewhere.Cadbob I too was getting fed-up with Lulu and investigated other places where I could self-publish. However in the end I came back to Lulu and am happy with my latest book. (although it took me ages to master the all-in-one cover.) I had heard very good things about mybestseller and would have gone with them, but they have a minimum number of pages allowed . My book had fewer pages. However if you want to try out mybestseller, below is their website. GOOD LUCK. home.mybestseller.co.uk/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwtZH7BRDzARIsAGjbK2bIiHhYNHkMQnK3iUeyfANgO3P8mmc-v75EXXyj2_D209Xyq5Lr6HwaAuNvEALw_wcB

I`m past caring now, both my books are available in the U.S. but still "temporarily out of stock" in the UK. Sales have gone from a regular bit of "pocket money" each month to absolutely zilch. I feel sorry for the poor people who used Lulu to provide a living if they have to put up with the same.

larika, thanks for the info. Unfortunately I'm in Canada and if I decide to use another self-publishing platform, will likely try and find one here.
I tried uploading my latest book to Lulu and have had nothing but problems - PDF files taking forever to upload; to continually be told - by their software - that the fonts I used in the PDF of my book interior not embedded (when they are); to cover dimensions not jiving; and then not being able to enter in my copyright information, pricing, etc. I'm really starting to think there is a fault in Lulu's book maker software as this is getting ridiculous. And the email I sent sent to their support on May 17 still hasn't been answered. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I'm starting to think Lulu doesn't give a hoot.
